Role overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a key technical member of the Engineering division, providing specialist electrical support across operating solar farms within the portfolio. Working closely with Plant Managers, site technicians, the control room, developers, and compliance bodies (AEMO/NSP), the role ensures safe, reliable, and high-performance operation of utility-scale solar and BESS assets.

The position is responsible for incident response, troubleshooting, engineering analysis, performance optimisation, HV operations, warranty management, and contributing to the development of best operating practices. The engineer plays a crucial role in improving fleet performance, enhancing asset reliability, and supporting both existing operations and new renewable project development.

Responsibilities

Operational Engineering & Incident Management

• Promptly action events/incidents escalated through various stakeholders.
• Support and guide Plant Managers/Site Technicians to rectify operational issues.
• Provide engineering support to control room operators in day-to-day operations.

Troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis & Minor Projects

• Lead/conduct root cause analysis of plant events using internal and external resources.
• Manage warranty claims and support minor O&M projects.
• Interpret and verify service test reports.

Compliance & Grid Operations

• Investigate and respond to NSP/AEMO/GPS compliance issues.
• Perform remote switching of solar plants and associated equipment when required.
• Perform HV switching and prepare HV switching sheets.
• Calculate and verify contractual availability.

Performance Improvement & Documentation

• Conduct performance data analytics to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Review and update O&M manuals.
• Work with SMEs to develop Best Operating Practices (BOPs).

Stakeholder Liaison & Specialist Support

• Engage external consultants/subject matter experts where required.
• Provide O&M engineering feedback into new project development activities.

Rostered Availability

• Participate in the weekend/holiday working roster.

Project Delivery and Development

• You will also be involved in project development and execution, providing your expertise.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in utility-scale solar plant operations and troubleshooting.
• Electrical Engineering background. Bachelor of Engineering qualification required.
• Knowledge of SCADA, networking, and power generation systems.
• Familiarity with HV systems, switchgear, and HV switching procedures.
• Understanding of power systems and tools such as Elspec Sapphire.
• Practical troubleshooting experience for solar farm equipment (inverters, transformers, etc.).
• Familiar with AEMO/NSP operational requirements.
• Knowledge of SMA/Ingeteam utility-scale inverters.
• Strong time management and coordination skills.
• High attention to detail; ability to work under pressure.
• Effective negotiation and stakeholder influence skills.
• Team-oriented mindset; willingness to learn.
• Tech-savvy; strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Passion for renewable energy; self-motivated.
• Exposure to utility-scale BESS O&M is advantageous.
