Lead the design and development of innovative products from concept through research and development, qualification, and production.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the overall electrical architecture for multiple unmanned systems and related subsystems.
  • Serve as the technical lead for electrical design efforts, ensuring alignment with system requirements, performance objectives, cost targets, and manufacturing considerations.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, software, systems engineering, manufacturing, program management, suppliers, and customers.
  • Lead detailed electrical design activities, including:
  • Battery-operated and power management systems
  • Power distribution and signal integrity analysis
  • Motor control and drive electronics
  • Analog and digital circuit design
  • High-speed data interfaces and communications
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI) design and mitigation
  • Drive PCB component placement and layout reviews with an emphasis on high-density, low Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) applications.
  • Perform design trade studies and evaluate technical solutions to optimize performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Develop and execute test plans, simulations, prototype evaluations, and verification activities to ensure compliance with system requirements.
  • Lead root-cause investigations for complex design, integration, and production issues, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support system integration, qualification testing, environmental testing, and field troubleshooting activities.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support production and sustainment activities, including design updates, failure analysis, and manufacturing issue resolution.
  • Generate and review engineering documentation, including schematics, interface definitions, test procedures, design reports, and technical presentations.
  • Interface directly with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors to communicate technical requirements, review designs, and resolve engineering challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in product development, aerospace, defense, robotics, unmanned systems, or similar industries.
  • Demonstrated experience leading electrical design efforts from concept through production.
  • Strong expertise in analog and digital circuit design, power electronics, embedded hardware, and mixed-signal systems.
  • Extensive experience designing battery-powered and low-SWaP electronic systems.
  • Proficiency with ECAD tools for schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation (e.g., OrCAD, Allegro, Altium Designer, or equivalent).
  • Experience with high-speed digital design, signal integrity analysis, and PCB layout best practices.
  • Strong understanding of EMC/EMI requirements, mitigation techniques, and compliance testing.
  • Hands-on experience with system integration, debugging, failure analysis, and laboratory testing using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and other test equipment.
  • Experience supporting products designed for military, aerospace, or harsh operating environments is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of electro-optical systems, sensor integration, motor control systems, or autonomous platforms is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to customers, management, and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and providing technical leadership.
