About the role

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer owns the electrical design documentation that turns system architecture into a plant that can be built. This means single-line and three-line diagrams, wiring schedules and system schematics for islanded microgrids. The role sizes the system across MV, LV and DC collection and produces the basis of design that the external Engineer of Record (EOR) stamps against. It reports to the Director of Power Systems Engineering.

This role is not the stamping engineer of record, and it does not cover controls logic.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain layouts, single-line and three-line diagrams, wiring schedules and system schematics for islanded BTM microgrids
• Size conductors, OCPD, disconnects and switchgear across MV/LV and DC collection, in compliance with NEC, UL 1741-SB, UL 9540 and NFPA 855
• Produce the basis of design and technical inputs for the EOR, and coordinate their review and stamp
• Develop equipment layouts and DC collection designs (string/harness, combiner, inverter skid, MV collector) for ground-mount PV + BESS
• Maintain the drawing set through revisions from design to IFC, as the single source of truth for procurement, the EOR and the field
• Support OEM technical evaluation of inverter skids, BESS and MV switchgear
• Track FEOC-compliant equipment options where ITC eligibility is at stake

Qualifications

• BSEE, power systems or a related STEM discipline
• 3+ years in utility-scale solar, BESS or power systems design, with hands-on ownership of SLDs, three-lines and equipment sizing
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (LT, Electrical or similar) and a 3D modeling tool (SketchUp or similar)
• Strong understanding of NEC, NESC and IEEE standards, and working knowledge of UL 1741-SB, UL 9540/9540A and NFPA 855
• Conductor, OCPD, disconnect and switchgear sizing across DC, LV and MV (34.5 kV class)
• Experience producing a basis of design and working with an Engineer of Record
• Strong attention to detail, with a bias for speed and rapid iteration

Nice to have

• Ground-mount utility-scale PV + BESS design
• MV collector, MV switchgear and substation-adjacent design (up to 500 kV)
• Islanded, off-grid or BTM microgrid experience
• System-level understanding of grid-forming vs grid-following inverters
• ERCOT / Texas project experience
• Experience in a fast-moving hardware environment (Tesla Energy, SpaceX, Array, Nextracker or similar)
