Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Systems & Electrical Design

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Systems & Electrical Design with strong experience in electrical engineering design, power systems, substations and grid interconnection, and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.

The successful candidate will support the Lead Electrical Engineer in the design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of MSR-GE’s renewable energy projects. The role will involve detailed electrical engineering, technical coordination, design reviews and site support across utility-scale solar PV, BESS, substations and other grid-connected projects.

The role will be HQ-based with travel to project sites as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the electrical engineering design and review of renewable energy projects, substations and associated grid interconnection facilities
• Prepare and review detailed engineering calculations, drawings and design documentation, including Single Line Diagrams, Load Lists / Schedules, Cable Schedules and Cable Drum Schedules, Schematic and Interconnection Diagrams, Equipment Layouts, Cable Routing and Trench / Tray Layouts, and Earthing and Lightning Protection System layouts
• Prepare and review electrical equipment specifications, datasheets, technical requisitions and vendor drawings
• Perform and / or review power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and relay settings using ETAP or equivalent software
• Support technical evaluations, vendor clarifications and procurement activities for electrical equipment and systems
• Coordinate electrical engineering activities with Project Managers, consultants, contractors, vendors and site teams
• Support liaison with TNB, Suruhanjaya Tenaga and other relevant utilities, authorities and stakeholders on electrical and grid interconnection matters
• Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable Malaysian regulations, utility requirements, IEC standards and other relevant local and international standards
• Review method statements, testing procedures, commissioning procedures and other technical documentation
• Support installation, testing, energisation and commissioning of electrical systems
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (“FATs”), Site Acceptance Tests (“SATs”), protection testing and other equipment testing where required
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical design, construction, testing and commissioning issues throughout the project lifecycle
• Participate in project meetings and provide technical input and engineering solutions
• Support project planning and ensure assigned engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project schedules and requirements
• Review engineering deliverables prepared by junior engineers, designers and draughtspersons where required
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technical personnel
• Support the development and continuous improvement of MSR-GE’s engineering standards, procedures and design practices
• Maintain high standards of engineering quality, safety and technical compliance across all project activities

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• A minimum of five (5) years of relevant electrical engineering experience
• Experience in detailed electrical engineering design, power systems, substations, grid interconnection, power generation, renewable energy or major EPCC projects
• Good knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical systems, protection, control and power distribution systems
• Experience with high-voltage substations and transmission systems will be highly advantageous
• Experience with utility-scale solar PV, BESS, substations, power plants or TNB infrastructure will be highly advantageous
• Good knowledge of Malaysian electrical regulations, TNB requirements and applicable IEC and international standards
• Demonstrable experience across electrical engineering design, construction, testing and commissioning
• Experience in power system studies, including load flow, short circuit and protection coordination
• Proficiency in ETAP or equivalent power system analysis software
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to prepare and review detailed engineering drawings
• Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple engineering deliverables and project priorities
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with consultants, contractors, vendors, utilities and project teams
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior engineers and technical personnel will be an advantage
• A strong commitment to engineering quality, safety and professional standards
• Willingness to travel interstate and attend project sites as required
