What they need

Job no: 504040

Location: Bethlehem
Categories: Technical/Scientific

Lehigh University's College of Engineering & Applied Science is home to rigorous undergraduate programs that give students hands-on experience with real laboratory equipment from day one. The Senior Electronic Technician who steps into this role will be the technical backbone keeping that experience running — accurately, safely, and at the standard Lehigh's engineering students deserve.

Position Number: S74880

This position is a Grade: 8 - 37.5 with an approximate salary range of $44,600-$53,530 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Design, install, maintain, and calibrate electronic and computer equipment supporting undergraduate teaching labs across ChBE, MEM, and BIOE departments
  • Develop new laboratory experiments and revise existing setups to align with evolving curriculum needs
  • Program and support equipment interfacing and automation using LabVIEW or equivalent software platforms
  • Provide technical guidance for undergraduate project work, including senior theses and experiential learning programs
  • Evaluate and recommend electronic and computer equipment purchases to meet departmental requirements
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment to minimize disruption to scheduled laboratory sessions
  • Maintain accurate documentation of equipment configurations, calibration records, and maintenance schedules
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure laboratory experiments meet instructional objectives and safety standards
  • Support the setup and breakdown of equipment for new and revised undergraduate experiments each semester
  • Liaise with vendors and external service providers for equipment procurement, warranty, and specialist repair

What You Bring

  • Associates or Vocational/Technical Degree in Electronics or a related field
  • Five to eight years of work related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in electronic systems design, troubleshooting, and instrumentation — ideally within a laboratory or engineering environment
  • Hands-on proficiency with LabVIEW or comparable data acquisition and automation software
  • Experience integrating computer systems with physical laboratory equipment
  • Strong organizational skills to manage concurrent projects across three active engineering departments
  • Comfort working independently while supporting faculty, staff, and undergraduate students with varying technical backgrounds
