About the role

The Team

Our Authorisation and Core Services team builds and evolves the foundational capabilities that power multiple products and business domains across the bank. We develop scalable, secure, and reliable platform services that enable other engineering teams to deliver solutions faster and more consistently. By leveraging modern cloud technologies and engineering best practices, we create reusable capabilities that reduce complexity, accelerate innovation, and provide a strong foundation for future growth.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Engineer to join one of our core engineering teams. In this role, you will help design, build, and evolve foundational services and platform capabilities that are used across multiple product teams. You will work on highly scalable and reliable solutions that enable other teams to deliver business value efficiently while contributing to the overall architecture and technical direction of the platform.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Quarkus, and PostgreSQL, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Build and operate event-driven solutions leveraging Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns to enable seamless integration and communication across multiple platforms and teams.
• Design, implement, and maintain cloud-native solutions on AWS, applying infrastructure and operational best practices to ensure scalability, security, and resilience.
• Develop and drive authentication and authorization capabilities, including identity integration, access control, and security standards, ensuring secure and compliant platform services.
• Ensure high-quality, secure code with comprehensive test coverage
• Collaborate with SRE, Security, and Platform teams to ensure resilience, observability, and compliance
• Take ownership of the full development lifecycle — from design to production
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

Our ideal candidate

• Proven experience developing and operating backend applications using Java and modern frameworks such as Quarkus or Spring Boot.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture and hands-on experience with AWS services, including deployment, monitoring, security, and operational best practices.
• Experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures and distributed systems using messaging technologies such as Kafka.
• Solid understanding of relational database design, data modeling, and performance optimization, particularly with PostgreSQL.
• Practical experience implementing authentication and authorization solutions, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, and secure service-to-service communication.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including clean code, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience building and operating highly available, scalable, and resilient systems in production environments.
• A proactive mindset with a passion for solving complex technical challenges, driving continuous improvement, and collaborating across teams.
• Agile, product-oriented approach with a strong ownership mentality and curiosity for new technologies and engineering practices.
