What they need

Who you are

  • You're an experienced Engineering Manager who combines strong delivery, people leadership and technical capability. You're comfortable with ambiguity, change and making decisions without having all the answers
  • 2+ years Engineering Management experience, ideally with experience in a second EM role
  • Strong technical background and ability to challenge technical decisions
  • Full SDLC and DevOps experience: testing, observability, incident response readiness, and security/privacy/data compliance ownership - "you build it, you run it."
  • Strong and production-proven opinions on architecture, design, testing and cloud (AWS preferred)
  • Strong Delivery Management experience: you own the roadmap, steer timeline conversations on metrics, drive forecasting, balance feature work against technical improvements, operations and maintenance
  • Strong People Leadership experience: run structured 1:1s, manage the career development, have direct performance conversations, establish an inclusive environment with high psychological safety
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and change
  • Strong Agile mindset, with experience in Kanban or similar
  • Customer-focused and able to connect technical work to customer problems
  • Active engagement with AI beyond experimentation - you have proven experience in using AI inside of software engineering/R&D. Youcan critically evaluate their impact
  • Discovery experience working with Product and Design
  • Specific programming language experience such as TypeScript, React or Node.js is not mandatory
  • TDD and/or BDD experience
  • Accounting or FinTech background

What the job involves

  • As an Engineering Manager, you’ll help to elevate your team's technical standards by championing sustainable development, prioritising operational excellence, and fostering a quality-first mindset. You’ll strike a balance between ambitious technical goals and pragmatic delivery, ensuring that reliability, security, and long-term scalability are integral, not secondary
  • The Engineering Manager shall ensure that the team's purpose and accountability are tightly integrated with the organisation's strategic objectives, creating an environment where engineers can dedicate their focus to high-value work, consistently shipping value early and often
  • Whether engaging with the team, collaborating across the organisation, or in broader professional interactions, you’ll focus on building mutual understanding, aligning individuals around a shared purpose, establishing trust, and enabling action with empathy
  • In joining a newly formed team, you’ll be joining a dynamic environment in which ambiguity is not a hurdle, but an opportunity. You’ll have the confidence to navigate evolving priorities and shifting landscapes with a forward-looking perspective, and convert uncertainty into focused action, leveraging the energy of change to drive innovation
  • Delivery: Own outcomes and help the team deliver what matters
  • People: Build and grow a strong, motivated team
  • Technical Leadership: Guide technical decisions and be accountable for the implementation: you own technical outcomes, without centralising every technical decision personally
  • Architecture & DevOps: Bring strong technical judgement on testing, observability, incident response readiness, and security/privacy/data compliance ownership and embrace “you build it, you run it.”
  • Agile: Help the team find the ways of working that work best for them
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, EMs and the Domain Engineer
  • Customer Focus: Keep customer needs at the heart of decisions
  • AI: Use AI in practical ways to improve how we build software
  • 0-3 Months
  • Form the team and build relationships
  • Define the mission, vision and roadmap with the trio
  • Set up the team for successful delivery
  • Establish the team's ways of working
  • Start AI adoption within the team
  • 3-6 Months
  • Deliver the first building blocks of the global accounting kernel
  • Establish a sustainable delivery rhythm
  • Move towards AI-native engineering practices
  • 6-12 months
  • Continue delivering and evolving the accounting kernel to 9+ europeen countries
  • Build a strong, high-performing team
  • Further embed AI-native engineering practices
  • Senior EM focus only:
  • Support other teams and domains
  • Contribute to the wider engineering organisation
  • Help set up or accelerate AI adoption across R&D
