What they need
The Senior Engineering Manager is the site’s senior technical leader, advancing engineering excellence, capital execution, automation, process improvement, and long-term asset strategy in a highly automated manufacturing environment. This leader guides the site engineering team and helps maintenance and reliability programs support safe, dependable manufacturing performance.
You will lead engineering and technical professionals, direct external partners and contractors, and manage an annual capital investment portfolio of up to $20 million. Your work will strengthen manufacturing capability, equipment performance, capacity, productivity, food safety, quality, and cost competitiveness while shaping a three- to five-year technical roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the site’s multi-year engineering, automation, infrastructure, and capital investment strategy.
- Manage an annual capital portfolio of up to $20 million, including project identification, business justification, planning, forecasting, execution, and financial closeout.
- Lead capital projects from concept and design through procurement, installation, commissioning, start-up, and operational handoff.
- Provide technical direction to engineering resources while developing the site’s engineering, controls, and troubleshooting capability.
- Prioritize and deliver improvements in safety, food safety, quality, capacity, productivity, automation, reliability, and cost performance.
- Partner across Operations, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, Finance, and Procurement to remove constraints and deliver business results.
- Select and manage engineering firms, equipment manufacturers, system integrators, construction contractors, and other technical partners.
- Establish technical standards, engineering specifications, equipment practices, and long-range facility and asset strategies.
- Lead complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, major shutdowns, equipment installations, and high-risk technical activities.
- Provide strategic guidance to the maintenance and reliability team and help build mechanical, electrical, controls, and problem-solving capability.
Why You’ll Love This Role
- Shape the technical direction of a highly automated manufacturing site and influence its three- to five-year roadmap.
- Lead approximately 35 active capital projects of varied size, with meaningful autonomy in how work is prioritized and executed.
- Create visible impact across food safety, quality, reliability, efficiency, cost improvement, and manufacturing competitiveness.
- Build stronger engineering standards and help advance the site toward smarter, more connected factory capabilities.
- Develop technical talent while partnering with plant leadership, corporate engineering, and specialized external resources.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Required Qualifications
- Eight or more years of progressive experience in engineering, capital projects, technical operations, manufacturing engineering, plant engineering, or engineering leadership.
- Demonstrated experience leading capital projects and delivering technical improvements in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working directly in manufacturing operations and communicating a technical vision to cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing engineering teams and developing technical professionals.
- At least three years of capital project leadership experience spanning scope development, budgeting, contractor management, commissioning, and operational handoff.
- Knowledge of industrial manufacturing systems, automation, controls, utilities, and process engineering.
- Experience building and executing multi-year capital investment strategies and managing annual capital portfolios of $10 million or more.
- Experience in food, beverage, consumer packaged goods, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience implementing automation, process optimization, productivity improvement, CMMS, reliability, or asset management programs.
- Lean Six Sigma certification or demonstrated continuous improvement expertise; PMP, PE, CMRP, or another relevant professional certification is also preferred.
Success in This Role
- Use sound judgment to prioritize limited time, funding, and technical resources against the site’s highest-impact needs.
- Communicate complex technical direction clearly and influence leaders, partners, contractors, and frontline teams.
- Apply data-driven problem-solving while balancing safety, food safety, quality, schedule, performance, and financial objectives.
- Build collaborative relationships and strengthen the technical capability of engineering and maintenance teams.
