What they need

At Muncie Power, our products play a critical role in our society by powering the vehicles that develop key infrastructure, putting out dangerous fires, fixing the power lines that power our homes, and hauling away our garbage.

Every team member at Muncie Power understands how important the success of our customers is to their communities. And that inherent value is carried throughout each team to ensure we’re providing the best for our customers.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Senior Engineering Test Technician ensures product excellence across the entire product lifecycle, from initial performance validation to post-market failure analysis. By bridging the gap between research and field performance, this role directly supports New Product Development, provides information as required to help Engineering Change Notices, and provides the critical data needed to resolve Corrective Action Requests. The technician performs Power Take Off (PTO) and hydraulic component testing to demonstrate durability, while simultaneously inspecting and analyzing products returned for warranty to determine root causes of failure. This is a safety-sensitive position due to the operation of vehicles, machinery, power tools, and testing equipment.

  • Follows Test Plans established by a Test Engineer to set up tests, install instrumentation, and calibrate equipment.
  • Measures and records test specimen features and geometries.
  • Assembles product and test setups in accordance with Test Requests & Plans.
  • Records test data clearly and accurately such that it is easy to interpret by others.
  • Keeps a daily log on each assigned test to maximize test time and minimize downtime.
  • Inspects, analyzes, and tests products returned through warranty to determine root cause failure.
  • Disassembles and inspects lab units, field test units, and field failures.
  • Performs mechanical repair work on hydraulics, power take-offs, and electronics.
  • Makes recommendations for product disposition, checks in products returned for credit, and determines whether a product is suitable for restock.
  • Operates and maintains a hydraulic test stand.
  • Uses calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, and other common measurement instruments.
  • Ensures test assets are used appropriately, safely, and efficiently.
  • Keeps the test lab safe, clean, orderly, and customer-presentable at all times.
  • Safely operates forklift to move transmissions, materials, and other items as needed.
  • Leads training for customer service managers, field sales managers, and new hires on field failures and how the product works.
  • Writes inspection summaries, compiles customer complaint forms, and reviews data before submitting.
  • Uploads digital images endorsing failure determinations for distribution to customers.
  • Communicates accurately and succinctly with engineering personnel, managers, and the general public.
  • Directs the timely shipment of products to customers and other divisions.

YOUR EXPERIENCES & SKILLS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • Associate of Science and/or vocational education involving automotive or similar machinery service is preferred.
  • 2 plus years of experience in a test lab environment is preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of hydraulics, power take-offs, and electronics.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and data acquisition software (PLC, Labview, etc.).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, professional journals, and governmental regulations.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to adapt to changing conditions and job assignments.
