What they need
About the project We’re pursuing an exciting marine infrastructure project in Geraldton, Western Australia, creating an opportunity to contribute to the planning and delivery of complex infrastructure works in a stunning coastal location with easy access to urban amenities and an enviable regional lifestyle.
This is an opportunity to support the delivery of technically complex marine infrastructure while helping protect the surrounding environment and drive positive environmental and sustainability outcomes throughout construction.
About the role We’re seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor to lead and coordinate environmental management activities on this exciting marine infrastructure project. You’ll play a key role in ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, project approvals and management plans, monitoring works, while identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance throughout construction.
Working closely with project leadership, construction teams, subcontractors, regulators and other stakeholders, you’ll provide practical environmental advice, oversee monitoring and compliance activities, and promote a strong culture of environmental awareness across the project. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in a hands-on site role, contributing to responsible construction practices and the successful delivery of complex infrastructure works.
You will be supported by McConnell Dowell’s corporate Environment and Sustainability Managers who will be based offsite with periodic site visits as required.
Key responsibilities
- Implement and maintain project environmental management systems, plans, procedures and monitoring programs to ensure compliance with legislation, approvals and contractual requirements.
- Monitor environmental performance, identify risks and opportunities, coordinate inspections and audits, and drive corrective actions and continual improvement.
- Manage environmental approvals, permits, reporting and stakeholder engagement, providing advice to project teams on regulatory obligations and emerging environmental risks.
- Conduct Marine Fauna Observations during underwater noise and disturbance activities.
- Coordinate and manage environmental consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Promote environmental awareness across the workforce, engaging with construction teams and subcontractors to embed environmental responsibilities into daily site activities.
- Drive sustainability initiatives and support environmental incident investigations, reporting and close-out of corrective actions in collaboration with project and HSEQ teams.
Don’t tick all the boxes? If you don’t meet every requirement but have relevant experience or transferable skills, we encourage you to apply. You may be a great fit for this role or other opportunities within McConnell Dowell.
What will you bring?
- A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline, with substantial relevant experience in the construction or infrastructure sector.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental management on construction projects, including environmental compliance, approvals, permitting, audits and risk management.
- Strong knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislation and regulatory requirements, with the ability to prepare and review technical environmental documentation and provide practical advice to project teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and organisational skills, with the ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and influence positive environmental outcomes.
Experience on marine infrastructure or other complex infrastructure projects will be highly regarded. Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional (ISAP) accreditation and knowledge of sustainability frameworks will also be advantageous for potential future projects.
What’s in it for you?
- Unique project experience: Help deliver complex marine infrastructure while protecting the surrounding environment.
- FIFO 2:1 roster: Enjoy a structured work and time-off cycle, flying from Perth.
- Meaningful impact: Drive environmental compliance, sustainability and continuous improvement on a significant infrastructure project.
- Career development: Work alongside experienced construction and HSEQ professionals, with opportunities across McConnell Dowell’s WA portfolio.
