Senior Estimator

Our client, a leading electrical contractor with a strong national presence, is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join its preconstruction team. This individual will play a critical role in preparing competitive, accurate, and profitable estimates for complex electrical construction projects across a diverse portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of detailed electrical construction estimates for negotiated and hard-bid projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.
• Perform quantity take-offs and develop comprehensive cost estimates.
• Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimization.
• Develop labour productivity assumptions and installation costs based on site conditions and historical project data.
• Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations for completeness and compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinate bid efforts with estimators, operations teams, vendors, and key stakeholders.
• Prepare proposal documents, scope letters, clarifications, and bid submissions.
• Ensure all estimating deliverables are completed accurately and within required timelines.
• Lead estimate reviews and present project scope, pricing strategy, risk analysis, and key assumptions to senior leadership.
• Support project turnover activities by collaborating closely with project management and operations teams.
• Maintain estimating databases, cost histories, and supporting documentation.
• Mentor junior estimators and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating function.

Required Experience

• 5+ years of estimating experience within electrical construction.
• Proven experience preparing estimates for commercial, industrial, mission critical, or large-scale construction projects.
• Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Experience performing detailed quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
• Knowledge of labour productivity, material pricing, subcontractor procurement, and bid strategy development.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Experience working collaboratively with operations, project management, and business development teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience with Accubid, Bluebeam, LiveCount, or similar estimating software.
• Familiarity with CAD, BIM, or 3D modelling platforms.
• Experience estimating design-build and mission critical projects is highly desirable.
• Previous leadership or mentoring experience within an estimating team.
