What they need
Are you the person who finds the line item everyone else missed? Do you believe a great estimate is built on process, not guesswork? Do you want to lead the estimating function at a growing company where your methods become the standard?
If the answer is yes, then we would love to speak with you.
As a Senior Estimator at Stout, you will own the budgets and estimates behind every project we bid and build. You will set the standards, guide the process, and make sure the numbers our customers rely on are accurate, complete, and defensible. With support from our preconstruction and business development team, you will turn plans and specifications into clear scopes, realistic budgets, and bids we can stand behind. At Stout, we strive to exceed expectations – both for our customers and our employees.
Our ideal candidate is meticulous and methodical, with a steady focus on detail and a habit of questioning assumptions before they become costly surprises.
SALARY RANGE:
$90,000 – $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Take overall responsibility for the creation of BUDGETS and ESTIMATES, from conceptual numbers built on minimal information to final bids.
- Oversee the estimating process for all projects bid and awarded.
- Establish standardized PROCEDURES, METHODS, and PROCESSES for estimating.
- Manage and coordinate the people, software, and other resources used to perform estimating.
- Assign estimating responsibilities for each project.
- Review plans and specifications with the team to confirm COMPLETE SCOPE.
- Identify RISK issues and their order of magnitude.
- Review general conditions, schedules, scopes of work, hoisting plans, site logistics, and other exhibits.
- Review and manage the scoping of SPECIALTY CONTRACTOR BIDS.
- Coordinate insurance requirements with our Risk Manager.
- Maintain and communicate data on construction and material COST TRENDS.
- Build effective relationships with customers, design teams, specialty contractors, and suppliers.
- Take part in industry, client, and community relations that enhance Stout's reputation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
To be successful in this position, you will be an analytical, detail-driven professional who takes pride in accuracy. You will spend your days working through plans and specifications with care, building processes that others can follow, and using sound judgment to weigh risk. You will keep information organized and well documented so that every estimate can be traced and explained. You will communicate clearly with your team, our customers, and the trade partners who price our work.
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Administration, or equivalent related work experience.
- 5+ years of estimating or project experience.
- Strong math and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent time-management, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
