Senior Estimator

Position Summary

MB Professional Services has been retained by an established construction and infrastructure services company to identify an experienced Senior Estimator specializing in heavy civil construction and underground utilities.

This position will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for complex infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on underground utility construction, water and wastewater systems, and related mechanical work.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction methods, project costs, scheduling, and the bidding process, along with the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive bids for large-scale heavy civil and underground utility construction projects.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements to determine project scope and costs.
• Perform quantity takeoffs, evaluate material and labor requirements, and develop project pricing.
• Analyze construction methods, productivity rates, schedules, and potential project risks.
• Prepare bid proposals, scopes of work, and supporting documentation for submission.
• Identify discrepancies in project documents and develop requests for information (RFIs) as needed.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and project teams to obtain accurate pricing and technical information.
• Assist with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and cost management throughout the construction process.
• Support contract reviews, negotiations, and project handoffs to operations.
• Manage multiple estimating assignments while meeting established bid deadlines.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience estimating heavy civil construction and underground utility projects.
• Strong knowledge of underground utility systems, including water distribution and transmission, sanitary sewer, gas, steam, and mechanical piping.
• Experience with water and wastewater infrastructure, including pump stations, treatment facilities, and storage systems.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements.
• Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid or comparable construction estimating software.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
• Understanding of construction scheduling, productivity, labor costs, materials, and equipment requirements.
• Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project and operations teams.
• Estimating experience combined with project management experience is preferred.
