What they need
About the role
The Senior Estimator (MEPFS) leads cost estimation and bid preparation for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and sanitary works undertaken by the company. The role is responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and commercially sound estimates from bid stage through award, helping the company win profitable bids while upholding the company's estimating standards. The Senior Estimator also mentors junior MEPFS estimating staff and acts as the technical authority on MEPFS pricing within the estimating team.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews tender/bid documents — drawings, specifications, bill of quantities, and contract conditions — to define the full scope of MEPFS works.
- Performs detailed quantity take-offs for MEPFS items (ductwork, piping, wiring and cabling, fixtures, pumps, fire protection systems, sanitary fittings, etc.).
- Prepares detailed cost estimates using historical cost data, current material and labor rates, productivity factors, and equipment costs.
- Sources, evaluates, and negotiates quotations from MEPFS subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Assembles and finalizes bid packages for MEPFS scope, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with tender/client requirements and deadlines.
- Identifies and prices project risks, exclusions, and contingencies for each MEPFS bid.
- Coordinates with MEP design/engineering consultants, procurement, and project management teams to validate quantities, methods, and assumptions before submission.
- Prepares and presents MEPFS estimate summaries and bid recommendations to management for review and approval.
- Monitors market trends in MEPFS material and labor costs and maintains the company's unit price and productivity databases for MEPFS trades.
- Reviews and validates the work of junior MEPFS estimators; provides technical guidance, training, and mentoring within the estimating team.
About you
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3–5 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, with a minimum of 2 years in a senior or lead MEPFS estimating capacity.
- Prior experience with a PCAB-licensed general building contractor is strongly preferred.
- Track record of successfully estimating and winning mid- to large-scale building projects (commercial, residential, or institutional).
- Proficient in quantity take-off and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, or equivalent) and advanced MS Excel.
- Able to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and sanitary drawings (AutoCAD familiarity an advantage).
- Strong working knowledge of MEPFS construction methods, materials, and current Philippine market rates for labor and materials.
- Familiarity with the Philippine Electrical Code, Sanitary Code, Fire Code, PCAB rules and licensing requirements, and standard public/private bidding procedures.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective negotiation skills with subcontractors and suppliers.
