Field Application Engineer – Power Semiconductors (German Speaking)

About the Role

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Field Application Engineer (FAE) to support customers in the development and integration of advanced power semiconductor technologies.

In this role, you will work closely with customers, engineering teams and commercial partners to provide technical expertise, identify new application opportunities and support the successful design-in of power semiconductor solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power electronics and semiconductor technologies , combined with a hands-on approach, excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with German-speaking customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical application support to customers throughout the design and development process, from initial concept through to implementation.
• Work closely with customers to understand their technical requirements and recommend suitable power semiconductor solutions.
• Support the selection, evaluation and integration of power semiconductor devices, including SiC, GaN, MOSFETs, IGBTs and power modules.
• Identify and develop new application opportunities across a range of power electronics markets.
• Develop and validate demonstrators, reference designs and customer evaluation platforms.
• Support customers with technical challenges relating to switching performance, thermal management, efficiency, reliability and device protection.
• Conduct laboratory testing, measurements and device characterisation to evaluate performance and support customer designs.
• Collaborate with internal engineering, R&D and commercial teams to address customer requirements and provide technical feedback.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations, application notes, reports and design recommendations.
• Monitor industry developments, emerging technologies and market trends in power semiconductors and power electronics.

Job Requirements

• Degree or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Power Electronics or a related technical discipline.
• Ideally 5–10 years of relevant experience in power electronics, power semiconductors or field applications engineering.
• Solid understanding of power semiconductor devices and their applications, including MOSFETs, IGBTs and/or wide-bandgap technologies such as SiC and GaN.
• Experience working with power electronic systems, circuit design, device evaluation or application development.
• Good understanding of semiconductor characteristics, switching behaviour, thermal performance and associated design considerations.
• Practical experience using laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads and other electrical measurement tools.
• Ability to analyse technical challenges, troubleshoot customer applications and propose practical engineering solutions.
• Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
• Fluent German and good working proficiency in English , both written and spoken.
• Comfortable working independently and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and industry events as required.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience in a Field Application Engineer, Application Engineer or Technical Support Engineer role within the semiconductor industry.
• Familiarity with power conversion, motor drives, renewable energy, automotive, industrial or energy management applications.
• Experience with simulation tools, PCB design or power electronics development platforms.
• Knowledge of semiconductor protection, gate driving, switching optimisation and reliability considerations.
• Experience supporting design-in activities and working directly with OEMs, system designers or industrial customers.
