Senior Finance Manager

Position Summary

EPLS is looking for a hands-on, analytical Senior Finance Manager to support and strengthen the company's finance and accounting operations. This role will be responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, cash management, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, and continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems.

The Senior Finance Manager will work closely with executive leadership and department leaders to translate financial information into actionable business insights. The role will have significant responsibility for maintaining financial discipline, improving reporting, monitoring profitability, and supporting operational decision-making.

The position will work across EPLS's healthcare consulting business, including consulting fees, retainers, performance-based fees, and rebate consulting revenue. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a growing, hands-on environment and balancing accounting accuracy with practical business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Analysis

• Prepare and maintain accurate monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Analyze financial results, including revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, EBITDA, and net income.
• Prepare variance analysis comparing actual results to budget, forecast, and prior periods.
• Develop recurring financial analyses and reports for executive leadership.
• Support profitability analysis by client, service line, consultant, and other relevant business segments.
• Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities and communicate findings to leadership.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of executive KPI dashboards.

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Support the annual budgeting process and ongoing rolling forecasts.
• Maintain financial models and forecasting tools.
• Gather operating assumptions from department leaders and incorporate them into financial forecasts.
• Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast and investigate significant variances.
• Assist leadership in evaluating the financial impact of staffing, pricing, spending, and growth decisions.
• Improve the accuracy and timeliness of financial forecasting.

Accounting Operations and Internal Controls

• Manage and improve the day-to-day accounting processes.
• Coordinate and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Review account reconciliations and ensure outstanding items are resolved timely.
• Oversee or coordinate accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense management activities.
• Maintain accurate supporting schedules and financial documentation.
• Help implement and maintain appropriate internal controls and segregation of duties.
• Maintain and improve accounting policies and procedures.
• Support the executive leadership team in addressing recommendations from outside accountants, advisors, or auditors.
• Maintain documentation necessary for financial reviews and future audits.

Revenue and Receivables Management

• Monitor accounts receivable aging and support a disciplined collections process.
• Review billing activity for accuracy and timeliness.
• Assist with accounting for consulting fees, retainers, performance-based fees, and rebate consulting revenue.
• Work with operations and client-facing teams to identify billing issues and improve cash collection.
• Assist with the financial review of contracts and billing arrangements.

Cash Management

• Prepare and maintain short-term cash forecasts.
• Monitor cash collections, disbursements, and working capital requirements.
• Assist with cash planning and vendor payment scheduling.
• Monitor cash flow trends and communicate potential issues to the executive leadership team.
• Support efforts to improve cash conversion and working capital efficiency.

Performance Management

Support the executive leadership team in maintaining regular financial and operational KPI reporting, including:

Financial KPIs

• Revenue growth
• Gross margin
• Profit and Loss Statements
• EBITDA
• Net income
• Cash conversion
• Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)
• Budget-to-actual performance

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Experience with accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience preparing management reports, variance analyses, and financial models.
• Experience with profitability analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks; QuickBooks Online experience strongly preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills and demonstrated financial modeling ability.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial leaders.
• High degree of accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and follow-through.

Preferred

• CPA, CMA, MBA, or progress toward a professional certification.
• Experience in professional services, consulting, healthcare, or a similar environment.
• Knowledge of ASC 606 and service-based revenue recognition.
• Experience with retainer, performance-based, rebate, or contingency-based revenue models.
• Experience with financial dashboards and BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Fathom, or Jirav.
• Experience with audit preparation or external financial reviews.
• Experience working in a small or mid-sized, growing organization.
• Experience improving accounting processes and implementing financial systems.
