What they need
Senior Flight Software Engineer | LA
InnoForge is partnering with an ambitious US space technology company developing advanced robotic systems for future lunar exploration and operations.
We're looking for a Senior Flight Software Engineer with deep Embedded Linux expertise to take ownership of the systems software powering a next-generation autonomous rover.
This is a hands-on engineering position focused on building a reliable, fault-tolerant Linux platform capable of supporting complex autonomy and robotic control systems in demanding environments.
You'll have significant technical ownership, working across the Linux kernel, device drivers, board support packages and hardware interfaces, taking software from early prototypes through to flight-ready systems.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own the Embedded Linux platform, including the kernel, device drivers, BSP and boot chain.
- Develop, maintain and extend board support packages, including device trees and pin muxing.
- Build and maintain interfaces for CAN, RS-485, USB, CSI and Ethernet devices, including sensors, cameras and motor controllers.
- Develop and maintain over-the-air software update capabilities.
- Design robust fault detection, identification and recovery mechanisms.
- Work closely with robotics, autonomy, embedded software and electrical engineering teams.
- Support the transition from development hardware and rover prototypes to reliable, flight-ready software.
- Take ownership of technical decisions, troubleshooting and system-level performance.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on Embedded Linux development at kernel, driver or BSP level.
- 5+ years of programming experience in C.
- Strong understanding of the Linux kernel, boot chain and low-level system architecture.
- Experience developing and debugging device trees and pin muxing on ARM-based platforms.
- Experience working with serial, CAN and Ethernet device drivers.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex hardware/software integration challenges.
- Experience delivering reliable embedded software for real-world hardware.
- A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Previous space industry experience is highly desirable, but not essential.
Interested?
If you're an Embedded Linux engineer who enjoys working close to the hardware, solving difficult technical challenges and building software that needs to perform reliably in the real world, we'd welcome a conversation.
