What they need
Who we are
NOAHS is a Danish commerce-technology company. We build and run the systems that convenience-retail and forecourt operators sell through — live today in 120+ locations across Denmark, Belgium and Ireland, and expanding. You would be employed by Noahs TH Co., Ltd., our BOI-registered Thai entity in Bangkok. The engineering team is small, senior and remote-first; the wider company spans Thailand, Denmark, Belgium, Ireland and India. We are at the point where a platform built to serve a hundred locations has to serve thousands. That is why this role exists.
Before you apply, spend ten minutes finding out what we actually sell and who we sell it to. We ask about it at interview, and it is one of the more revealing questions we ask — not as a memory test, but because the people who do well here are the ones who were curious before anyone asked them to be.
The role
You will build and own backend services and the interfaces on top of them for a multi-country retail and forecourt commerce platform. The platform sits at the centre of a large and growing partner-integration surface, and a good part of this role is owning it — keeping those integrations correct, extending them as we enter new markets, and making them survive partners changing their APIs under us. The rest is product engineering on the services and interfaces we build ourselves. You will own features from the data model through the API to the screen.
What you will actually work on
- Partner integrations. This surface only grows: every market we enter brings its ownset of partner systems to connect to, and each one has to be built, monitored and kept working
- Order, pricing and promotion services — money moves through these, in four currencies, under four countries’ tax rules
- Self-service kiosks on forecourts, running one browser session for 14+ hours on unreliable wifi, unattended
- Country-specific business rules — VAT that varies by item, bottle deposits, per-market promotions — expressed as configuration rather than as branches in code• Shipping new capability into live systems incrementally — no big-bang cutovers, no downtime windows
Responsibilities
- Design, build and own backend services in Node.js — data model, API contract, and the correctness of what they guarantee
- Build the interfaces on top of them in React / Next.js (App Router)
- Take features end to end: schema → service → API → UI → deployed and verified
- Write automated tests, and treat a bug as unfixed until a test pins it
- Own partner integrations end to end — build them, monitor them, and keep them correct when a partner changes an API, goes slow, goes offline, or returns bad data
- Reconcile data across systems that disagree, and work out which one is right
- Review other people’s code, and write down what the team needs to know
- Work directly with product, support and operations across four countries
Requirements
- At least 4 years building production software, with real ownership of backend services — you have designed them, shipped them and kept them running, not only consumed APIs someone else built
- Node.js and TypeScript in production
- React and Next.js in production — you have opinions about the App Router, server components and caching, not just familiarity
- Relational and document databases in production. You can explain what a transaction guarantees, when it does not help, and how you would prevent two customers being sold the same last item
- REST or GraphQL API design — versioning, error contracts, and what happens when a caller retries
- Real experience integrating third-party platforms — webhooks, reconciliation, idempotency, and diagnosing a failure that is on the other side of someone else’s API
- Automated testing as part of how you work, not as a phase at the end
- Cloud deployment — AWS preferred; containers, environments, rollback
- Working English. This is the primary working language: the team spans Thailand, Denmark, Belgium, Ireland and India, and you will need to explain a technical position, disagree with one, and be understood — in writing and live
- Thai for day-to-day team communication
- Able to work unsupervised. The team is small and senior; there is no capacity for close guidance
On years of experience. Four years is a guideline, not a filter. The list above describes what the job actually needs, and a year count is only a rough proxy for it — we would rather have four years and the right instincts than eight and none.If you are short of four years and still think you can do this job, apply and make the case.
Tell us what you have built that shows it. Ambition is not a mark against you here; the only thing that is, is needing someone to check your work — see What you would be signing up for.
Preferred
- Agentic AI development tools in daily use — Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot Agent — with a verification habit. We are AI-heavy and we review everything the agent writes
- Retail, F&B, forecourt, kiosk or commerce-platform experience
- Multi-currency, multi-region or multi-tenant systems
- Kubernetes, Terraform, or infrastructure-as-code
- Observability — tracing a slow path in production rather than guessing at it
- React Native — we have mobile surfaces, but this is not a mobile role
What you would be signing up for
Read this part twice. Candidates who take the job on a wrong picture of it leave, and that is expensive for both sides.
- A small team with a very large target. 120+ locations today, aiming at 10,000 within three years, without hiring proportionally. That is the whole strategy and it sets the pace
- A weekend support rota. Live customer-facing systems in four countries; something will break outside office hours
- An incomplete knowledge base you are expected to fill in, not to be onboarded from
- Limited mentorship bandwidth. The open seats are senior for this reason
- Not a greenfield. There are live systems to evolve, real data to migrate, and architectural decisions you did not make to work within
If none of that puts you off at all, you have probably not read it closely. We would rather hear which part concerns you.
Working here
- Salary: THB 50,000–75,000 per month depending on experience, with room above the range for an exceptional candidate
- Employment under Noahs TH Co., Ltd. — full Thai labour protection
- Remote, with one scheduled in-person day per week
- Stack: Node.js · Next.js · TypeScript · MongoDB · PostgreSQL · AWS · outsourced DevOps for infrastructure changes
- We build with AI deliberately — brief → spec → plan → tests → code, with review at each stage. Bring your own practice; we will not police the tool, only the verification
How to apply
Please include, in the application itself:
- Expected monthly salary
- GitHub, GitLab or portfolio URL — if your best work is under NDA, say so and describe it instead
- English level — a test score if you have one, a test score if you have one, an honest self-assessment if you do not
Other offers great for you!
