Senior Fund Accountant

Role and Company Overview:

This position is with a US-based financial services firm that acts as the outsourced CFO and back-office partner for investment fund managers, founders, and high-net-worth individuals. They manage over $1.5 billion in client assets under administration and operate on fully AI-native systems. This is a senior individual contributor role for a fund accounting professional who goes beyond understanding the process — they independently interpret legal documents, make judgment calls, and take full ownership of complex deliverables from start to finish.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain complete and accurate books and records for private equity funds, venture capital funds, and SPVs
• Review and interpret LPAs, side letters, and operating agreements and translate their terms directly into documented accounting workflows
• Process capital calls and distributions including handling exceptions like short payments or defaults
• Build, maintain, and review fund-specific distribution waterfalls including preferred return, GP catch-up, and carried interest
• Calculate management fees, fund expenses, and realized and unrealized gains
• Prepare capital account statements and support quarterly and annual financial statements and audit requests
• Identify inefficient processes and leverage AI tools to improve operational efficiency and quality control
• Manage competing deadlines across multiple funds and clients simultaneously during quarter-end

Requirements:

• 4+ years of direct, hands-on fund accounting or fund administration experience for private equity, venture capital, or SPV structures — general bookkeeping, corporate accounting, tax, or audit experience alone will not substitute
• Strong accounting fundamentals with practical experience executing capital calls, distributions, and fund expense allocations
• Demonstrated ability to independently read LPAs and governing documents and translate terms into accounting entries without guidance
• Experience building and maintaining complex distribution waterfall models
• Excellent written and spoken English — communication is critical in this role
• Proven ability to juggle multiple funds and deadlines independently and proactively communicate blockers to a remote team
• Comfortable working 10:00am–6:00pm Mountain Time in a secure, professional remote workspace

Nice-to-Have:

• Active CPA or equivalent professional certification
• Experience with complex fund structures such as master-feeder, fund-of-funds, or tax credit structures
• Proven track record automating back-office workflows using AI tools including generative AI
• Prior experience working directly with US-based teams and clients
