Senior GenAI Engineer

AMP8, our next five-year regulatory period, will see us launch our biggest and most complex investment programme of almost £13bn, of which £6bn will be delivered through our capital programme. This is more than double the size of the AMP7 capital programme and is an opportunity to drive real change.

As part of that transformation, we’re building new capabilities that will help us deliver smarter, faster and more effectively than ever before. One of the boldest is our Capital Delivery AI Transformation Team — a high-profile team created to help unlock major value across AMP8 and AMP9, with an ambition to deliver around £0.5bn of value across the programme.

This team exists to challenge how things have always been done. It brings together agile thinking, emerging technology and practical delivery to create solutions that remove waste, improve speed and unlock better outcomes across capital delivery.

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT Shape the future of AI-powered capital delivery. We're looking for a Senior GenAI Engineer to help build the next generation of AI applications that transform how major infrastructure projects are planned and delivered. You'll develop innovative AI-powered tools that turn optioneering briefs into costed, comparable solutions through intuitive chat-based and interactive experiences.

Working at the intersection of Generative AI, software engineering and user experience , you'll own the application and agent layer, connecting AI agents with cost, asset and schedule data to deliver valuable outcomes for our users.

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing and building production-grade GenAI applications and agent-based solutions
• Developing full-stack applications using Python, TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks such as React
• Creating intuitive user experiences, including interactive canvases, dashboards and data-rich interfaces
• Integrating LLMs, agent workflows, RAG and tool-calling capabilities
• Deploying solutions in AWS or Azure using modern CI/CD practices
• Delivering new features through regular development cycles and driving continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For

• Significant software engineering experience, including delivering LLM/GenAI applications to real users
• Strong knowledge of agent orchestration, prompt engineering, RAG and evaluation frameworks
• Full-stack development expertise across back-end, front-end and API development
• Experience with cloud platforms, automated testing and secure development practices
• Passion for creating exceptional user experiences and translating complex technical concepts into business value

Desirable experience

• AI certifications (AWS or Azure)
• Multi-agent frameworks, MCP or AI gateways
• GIS or geospatial applications
• Construction, engineering, utilities or cost-estimating software
• AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or Kiro
