What they need
Earth Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer, P.E., to provide technical leadership, mentor engineering staff, and support the management of our geotechnical engineering department.
The successful candidate will possess advanced technical expertise in shallow and deep foundation systems, settlement analysis, slope stability, expansive soils, and complex subsurface conditions. This position requires a hands-on engineering professional capable of independently managing geotechnical investigations, performing engineering analyses, preparing and reviewing technical reports, and providing sound, practical design recommendations.
In addition to technical responsibilities, this individual will play a key role in developing junior engineers, overseeing engineering quality, managing departmental workloads, and supporting construction materials testing operations.
This position offers the opportunity for advancement into Geotechnical Department Manager and, over time, executive leadership based on demonstrated performance and organizational growth.
Essential Responsibilities
Technical Engineering & Quality Oversight
- Serve as a senior technical resource for complex geotechnical engineering projects.
- Perform and review foundation engineering, settlement, slope stability, earth retention, and related geotechnical analyses.
- Direct subsurface investigations, evaluate laboratory and field data, and develop engineering recommendations.
- Independently prepare, review, and seal geotechnical engineering reports within responsible charge.
- Provide technical guidance on challenging design and construction conditions.
Engineering Staff Development
- Provide technical mentorship and training to EITs and project engineers.
- Review calculations, analyses, and reports to ensure engineering accuracy and consistency.
- Develop technical standards, review procedures, and training practices that strengthen departmental capabilities.
- Support the progression of junior engineers toward independent project execution.
Department Leadership & Project Delivery
- Provide oversight of engineering assignments, schedules, technical deliverables, and quality control.
- Manage geotechnical projects from initial scope development through final reporting and construction support.
- Coordinate with laboratory personnel, drilling contractors, project managers, and field staff.
- Support technical decision-making for construction materials testing activities and resolve geotechnical issues encountered during construction.
- Work directly with company leadership to improve departmental efficiency, project execution, and staff development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline; graduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- Active Texas Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive geotechnical consulting experience; 15+ years preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in foundation engineering, settlement analysis, slope stability, and geotechnical investigations.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, and sealing geotechnical engineering reports.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and provide technical direction.
- Strong project management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Houston and Gulf Coast subsurface conditions strongly preferred.
- Previous department management or team leadership experience preferred.
