Senior Geotechnologist

This role is responsible for delivering high-quality petrophysical interpretations and wellsite geological support to optimise well placement, minimise drilling risk, and ensure accurate formation evaluation across exploration, appraisal, and development wells. The Senior Geotechnologist works closely with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, drilling engineers, and directional drillers, and mentors junior geotechnologists within the team.

Key Responsibilities

Well Planning & Formation Evaluation

• Support well planning by comparing offset well data, predicting formation tops, and identifying potential drilling hazards or geological uncertainties.

• Perform petrophysical analysis and formation evaluation using well logs (LWD/wireline), core data, and cuttings to characterise reservoir quality and hydrocarbon potential.

• Develop and quality-control petrophysical models (porosity, permeability, saturation) to support reservoir characterisation and volumetric estimates.

• Prepare well proposals, logging programmes, and formation evaluation plans in collaboration with geoscience and reservoir engineering teams.

Real-Time Operations & Geosteering

• Provide real-time geological support during drilling operations, monitoring LWD/MWD data, cuttings, and gas shows to track formation tops and wellbore position.

• Provide geosteering guidance to directional drillers to keep the well trajectory within the target reservoir zone.

• Identify and advise on potential drilling hazards, wellbore instability, and mud loss zones based on real-time data.

• Prepare daily geological reports, end-of-well reports, and formation tops updates for operations and subsurface teams.

Data Integration & Technical Support

• Integrate petrophysical, geological, and reservoir data to support field development planning and reserves estimation.

• Collaborate with geoscientists and reservoir engineers to refine static and dynamic subsurface models.

• Support core and log data acquisition planning, quality control, and interpretation.

• Contribute technical input to well proposals, AFEs, and post-well review reports.

Technical Leadership & Coordination

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior geotechnologists and wellsite geologists.

• Liaise with drilling engineers, company representatives, and service providers to ensure alignment on well objectives and data acquisition programmes.

• Participate in well planning meetings, post-well reviews, and technical assurance processes.

• Ensure all subsurface/wellsite activities comply with company HSE and technical quality standards.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering, or a related discipline.

• 8–12 years of experience in petrophysics, wellsite geology, or an integrated geotechnologist role within oil & gas exploration and production.

• Strong knowledge of formation evaluation techniques, petrophysical interpretation, and geosteering practices.

• Experience with relevant software platforms (e.g. Techlog, Petrel, or equivalent petrophysical/geological interpretation tools).

• Familiarity with LWD/MWD data, mud logging, and real-time drilling data interpretation.

• Willingness to travel to wellsite/rig locations as required, with valid offshore certifications where applicable.

Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to work under operational time pressure.
