What they need

Overview – Department:

Dyson is a global technology enterprise. We solve the problems others choose to ignore, with surprising new inventions that defy convention and simply work better. We’re growing fast and our ambition is huge - more categories, more locations, and more people.

We push the boundaries of what others have defined as possible. Our approach starts with an engineering mindset and different thinking. Then we continuously refine our ideas - unwilling to compromise and driven by an obsession for finding a better way.

In Graphics and Packaging team, we design and develop customer facing graphics and packaging solutions for all Dyson products to deliver great out of box experience. As part of a matrix RDD organisation, and within the Design Engineering function, Graphics and Packaging is large-scale team focussed on the design and development of product colour, graphics, literature, and packaging.  Based in Global Development Campus, Johor Bahru and our Philippines Development Centre (PDC), this international team provides the capability to pick up graphics and packing concepts from their UK based counterparts and develop these into designs that can be efficiently manufactured at scale.

Position Overview:

As a Senior Packaging Engineer at Dyson, you will play a pivotal role in the development, optimization, and review of packaging solutions. You will leverage your extensive experience in packaging design and engineering to drive innovation, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability while ensuring the highest standards of quality and functionality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Testing and Validation: Work with verification and validation engineers to validate packaging material and design tests, including performance, durability, and transportation testing, to ensure meeting product and packaging requirement.

  • Cost Analysis: Support cost analysis efforts by estimating packaging material costs and identifying opportunities for cost savings through optimization.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design and Product Experience, Design Managers, Manufacturing, and Quality control, to ensure packaging solutions align with product requirements and production processes.

  • Environmental Sustainability: Work on projects to reduce environmental impact through sustainable packaging design and materials selection, aligning with our company's commitment to sustainability.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of packaging specifications, design iterations, development progress, lessons learnt and project documentation.

  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in packaging engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years packaging development work experience with strengths proven to have the ability in managing packaging development projects.

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials (e.g., corrugated inserts, folding cartons, pulp tray, thermoform trays, bags and internal protective packaging)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX) and packaging design tools (e.g., Kasemake, Artios CAD).

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines.

  • Knowledge of packaging regulations and standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM, ISO) is a plus.
