With a fully equipped repair facility and mobile service fleet, we take pride in tackling challenging repairs and keeping our customers' equipment working.
Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic to join our team.
This position is ideal for a skilled mechanic who enjoys diagnosing challenging mechanical issues, taking ownership of complex repairs, and sharing their knowledge with other technicians.
We're looking for someone who brings more than just years of experience. We want a dependable, knowledgeable mechanic who can think critically, troubleshoot independently, and contribute to the overall success of our shop.
As a senior member of our mechanical team, you'll play an important role in supporting our technicians, maintaining repair quality, and helping us deliver the dependable service our customers have come to expect.
Key Responsibilities

- Perform advanced diagnostics on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrains, transmissions, and other major components.
- Complete major mechanical repairs, component replacements, engine overhauls, and preventative maintenance.
- Interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, service manuals, diagnostic information, and manufacturer specifications.
- Utilize diagnostic software, specialized tooling, and testing equipment to accurately identify and resolve equipment failures.
- Take ownership of assigned repairs from initial diagnosis through completion, ensuring work is performed efficiently and correctly.
- Assist fellow technicians with complex troubleshooting, technical questions, and repair procedures.
- Provide mentorship and practical guidance to apprentices and less-experienced mechanics.
- Work closely with the Shop Foreman, Service Department, and Parts Department to ensure repairs are properly coordinated and completed.
- Identify additional repair concerns, communicate required parts, and provide accurate information to support estimates and repair planning.
- Maintain detailed and accurate service records, including diagnostic findings, work performed, and repair recommendations.
- Perform quality checks and operational testing to confirm repairs have been completed successfully.
- Follow all company safety policies, manufacturer procedures, and industry regulations while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician certification preferred; extensive relevant experience will also be considered.
- Significant hands-on experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy-duty equipment.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical powertrains.
- Proven ability to independently diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical failures.
- Experience working with a variety of heavy equipment manufacturers and equipment types.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical manuals, electrical diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and manufacturer repair procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and manage repair responsibilities effectively.
- Willingness to mentor and support other technicians while contributing to a team-oriented shop environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly document and explain technical findings.
- A commitment to quality workmanship, workplace safety, and accountability.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who takes pride in being a mechanic.
Someone who doesn't just replace parts and hope for the best, but takes the time to understand the problem, identify the cause, and make the right repair.
The right candidate will be confident in their abilities but willing to work with others, share their knowledge, and continue learning. We value mechanics who take initiative, communicate openly, and understand that quality work and teamwork go hand in hand.
Why Join MFS?
