What they need
I’d rewrite the Agility Partners posting so candidates immediately understand that this is an infrastructure automation engineering job—not a generic developer, cloud DevOps, Linux admin, or networking position.
Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer – Ansible/Python
A little about this gig
Our client, a large enterprise financial organization, is expanding its Infrastructure Automation Engineering team and is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer to help modernize how infrastructure is configured, deployed, and managed at scale.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who builds automation that directly manages enterprise infrastructure. You’ll use Ansible and Python to automate configuration, provisioning, remediation, and operational workflows across servers, virtual machines, network-connected infrastructure, and enterprise platforms .
A major focus of the team is moving traditional infrastructure configuration and operational processes toward Configuration-as-Code . That means turning infrastructure configuration into version-controlled YAML/code, managing changes through Git and established SDLC practices, validating changes through automated workflows, and using orchestration platforms such as Ansible AWX/AAP and Rundeck to execute automation safely across the environment.
This is not a traditional Linux Administrator or Network Engineer position . The infrastructure is what you’ll be automating; your job is to build the automation that manages it .
What you’ll be doing
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and Python automation used across enterprise infrastructure.
- Build automation that interacts directly with servers, VMs, network devices, load balancers, and other infrastructure platforms .
- Develop API-driven integrations that connect infrastructure automation with other enterprise systems and services.
- Build and support automation workflows using Ansible AWX / Ansible Automation Platform and Rundeck Enterprise .
- Help migrate existing automation and configuration processes from Puppet and Rundeck into Ansible/AWX-based workflows .
- Convert existing infrastructure configuration and operational baselines into Configuration-as-Code , including structured YAML.
- Manage infrastructure configuration through Git-based workflows , including version control, branching, pull/merge requests, reviews, and change governance.
- Develop automated validation and CI/CD processes to verify configuration changes before they reach production.
- Create and maintain AWX job templates, workflows, inventories, configuration, and automation patterns .
- Build automation around enterprise infrastructure use cases, including F5/load-balancer monitoring and ServiceNow integrations .
- Troubleshoot failed automation and provide production support for automation platforms and workflows.
- Partner with infrastructure, network, security, platform, and application teams to identify manual processes that can be automated.
- Help establish reusable automation standards and mentor other infrastructure engineers on modern automation practices.
What we're looking for
The strongest candidate will have experience as an Infrastructure Automation Engineer, Platform Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Automation Engineer, Infrastructure Developer, SRE, or DevOps Engineer where infrastructure automation was a major part of the job.
Must-have experience:
- Strong hands-on Ansible experience, including personally developing playbooks/roles—not simply executing existing automation.
- Strong Python scripting/development experience specifically applied to infrastructure or operational automation.
- Experience automating enterprise infrastructure , such as Linux/Windows servers, virtual machines, network infrastructure, load balancers, or similar platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Ansible AWX / Ansible Automation Platform / Ansible Tower OR Rundeck .
- Experience building automation that uses REST APIs or other platform integrations .
- Strong Git experience and familiarity with modern software-development/change-management workflows.
- Experience working with YAML and treating infrastructure configuration as version-controlled code.
- Understanding of CI/CD, automated validation, testing, and controlled deployment of infrastructure changes .
- Ability to troubleshoot automation in complex production environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with and mentor infrastructure engineering teams.
Experience with Puppet, ServiceNow, F5/load balancing, regulated environments, or large financial organizations would be especially helpful.
