Senior Infrastructure Engineer (GCP) — 100% Remote

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (GCP) to join a highly experienced infrastructure team responsible for designing, building, and operating a large-scale cloud platform.

Our client is an international technology company operating a large-scale, globally distributed cloud and data infrastructure.

This is an opportunity to work on complex infrastructure challenges involving reliability, scalability, performance, security, and cloud cost optimization.

We are looking for someone who has already managed large-scale production infrastructure and can bring proven technical expertise, strong ownership, and architectural leadership.

You will work closely with the Data Engineering leadership and infrastructure team.

Your Responsibilities

• GCP Architecture: Design, maintain, and optimize cloud infrastructure using GKE, Compute Engine, VPC, Load Balancing, IAM, GCS, BigQuery, and Pub/Sub.

• Infrastructure as Code: Manage infrastructure through Terraform, including reusable modules, reproducible environments, CI/CD pipelines, and code reviews.

• Kubernetes Operations: Operate and scale production GKE clusters, including upgrades, autoscaling, workload isolation, security, and observability.

• Site Reliability Engineering: Define SLOs, implement monitoring and alerting, manage production incidents, and conduct blameless postmortems.

• Production Operations: Ensure platform reliability through security patches, capacity planning, backups, disaster recovery, and participation in an on-call rotation.

• Cloud Cost Optimization: Monitor and optimize cloud spending through resource sizing, committed usage, and cost-efficiency initiatives.

• Automation: Build internal tools, pipelines, and operators to eliminate repetitive manual operations.

• Security: Implement least-privilege IAM, secrets management, Linux hardening, and secure CI/CD practices.

• Data Infrastructure: Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to design scalable data processing pipelines and support globally distributed infrastructure.

• Technical Leadership: Review infrastructure designs, document best practices, mentor engineers, and contribute to raising engineering standards.

Required Qualifications

All the following requirements are mandatory.

• 10+ years of experience in Infrastructure Engineering, SRE, or Production Engineering, including several years in a Senior or Staff-level role.

• 3+ years of hands-on production experience with GCP, including GKE, VPC, Load Balancing, Cloud NAT, IAM, GCS, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Monitoring/Logging.

• Proven experience operating large-scale production infrastructure, involving hundreds of nodes, multi-region deployments, high traffic, or significant cloud budgets.

• Advanced Terraform expertise, including module design, state management, infrastructure refactoring, CI/CD integration, and policy as code.

• Strong System Design skills, with experience designing distributed systems and evaluating trade-offs between availability, latency, consistency, and cost.

• Deep Kubernetes expertise, including scheduling, networking (CNI, Services, Ingress/Gateway API), RBAC, storage, Helm/Kustomize, operators, and production troubleshooting.

• Excellent Linux and networking knowledge, including systemd, kernel tuning, TCP/IP, routing, DNS, iptables/nftables, and performance diagnostics using tools such as perf, strace, tcpdump, and eBPF.

• Ability to write production-grade code in Go or Python, with Go preferred. Experience must go beyond basic scripting.

• Fluent English, both written and spoken.

Candidates should be comfortable providing concrete, measurable examples of infrastructure they have designed and operated.

Nice to Have

• Advanced knowledge of internet networking protocols and infrastructure: BGP, ASN, anycast, traceroute, and latency measurement.

• Experience managing globally distributed machines, edge infrastructure, or Points of Presence (PoPs).

• Experience with large-scale data pipelines using BigQuery, Dataflow, Apache Beam, or Spark.

• Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.

• GitOps experience with Argo CD or Flux.

• Google Cloud certifications (Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer) or Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKS).

• Experience with hybrid bare-metal/cloud or multi-cloud environments.

• Contributions to open-source projects, technical publications, or conference presentations.
