Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to provide hands-on support for its storage and virtualization environment during a team transition. This hybrid on-premises and cloud infrastructure role encompasses Pure Storage, VMware, enterprise backup, NAS, and AWS storage services.
The successful candidate will be able to operate independently from day one, bringing strong troubleshooting instincts and deep platform expertise to help maintain stable, reliable, and high-performing storage and compute infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provision, monitor, and maintain Pure Storage FlashArray systems, including performance tuning and patch and firmware lifecycle management.
- Administer VMware vSphere and ESXi clusters, including DRS, HA, vMotion, VM templates, and production workload troubleshooting.
- Manage Rubrik backup operations, remediate job failures, configure replication, and execute data restores.
- Maintain TrueNAS or equivalent ZFS-based NAS appliances, including shares, snapshots, replication schedules, and capacity monitoring.
- Maintain the existing HPE Synergy environment through its planned sunset, including firmware updates, health monitoring, and basic troubleshooting. No new deployments are planned for this platform.
- Configure and maintain AWS S3 as a backup and archive target, including storage classes and lifecycle policies.
- Implement and support AWS Storage Gateway for presenting cloud storage as on-premises file or volume storage.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell and Robocopy scripts to automate data migration activities and reduce manual effort and errors.
- Manage VLANs, port mappings, trunking, and vSwitch or distributed switch configurations as needed to support VMware connectivity.
- Independently isolate issues across storage, compute, network, and virtual machine layers, escalating when necessary.
- Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation and follow established change control procedures.
Qualifications:
- 7 or more years of hands-on experience managing production storage and virtualization infrastructure.
- Strong demonstrated expertise administering Pure Storage FlashArray.
- Strong demonstrated expertise with VMware vSphere and ESXi, including cluster management and VM template administration.
- Hands-on experience with Rubrik or an equivalent enterprise backup platform.
- Experience administering TrueNAS or another ZFS-based NAS platform.
- Hands-on experience with HPE Synergy or a similar blade platform.
- Working knowledge of AWS S3 storage classes, lifecycle policies, and AWS Storage Gateway.
- Demonstrated PowerShell scripting ability and working knowledge of Robocopy or similar data migration tools.
- Familiarity with VLANs, port mapping, and switch-level configuration related to VMware networking.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently and require minimal onboarding support.
- Active Directory DNS and DHCP experience, including AD-integrated zones, conditional forwarders, and DHCP configuration and management, preferred.
- Broader AWS familiarity, including EC2 and general AWS console navigation, preferred.
- Experience with storage consolidation or migration projects, such as NAS-to-SAN or on-premises-to-cloud migrations, preferred.
- Experience working in a regulated industry, such as life sciences, healthcare, or finance, preferred.
