What they need
Looking for a projects role where you're trusted to get things done?
We're looking for an experienced Senior Projects Engineer to join our growing team.
At Vermont, projects engineers are trusted to take ownership. You'll be responsible for delivering infrastructure, cloud and cyber security projects for a wide range of growing businesses, helping them modernise, improve security and get more value from technology.
You'll often be working independently, making technical decisions and taking projects from discovery through to completion. At the same time, you'll be part of a supportive technical team that collaborates, shares knowledge and helps each other succeed.
This role will suit someone who enjoys solving problems, learning new technology and seeing the tangible results of their work.
About Vermont
We're an established MSP supporting ambitious businesses across the South Coast and beyond.
Our focus isn't selling boxes, chasing ticket numbers or creating unnecessary process. We help clients use technology to work better, grow confidently and stay secure.
We believe in doing the right thing, taking ownership and building long-term relationships with our clients.
We're a friendly, experienced team with high standards, low ego and a shared desire to deliver great work.
What you'll be doing
- Delivering infrastructure, cloud and cyber security projects from discovery through to completion
- Leading Microsoft 365 migrations and deployments
- Implementing Microsoft Intune and modern device management solutions
- Deploying and supporting Azure infrastructure and Azure Virtual Desktop
- Delivering server, storage and virtualisation projects
- Designing and implementing secure networking solutions
- Producing implementation, testing and rollback plans
- Acting as a senior technical escalation point when required
- Supporting clients during major changes and technical challenges
- Contributing to standards, documentation and continuous improvement
- Sharing knowledge and mentoring other engineers
What we're looking for
We don't expect someone who has worked with every technology we use.
Technology evolves too quickly for that.
What matters more is that you've built a strong technical foundation, have solid project experience and enjoy learning new things.
You'll probably be a great fit if you:
- Have experience delivering projects within an MSP environment
- Have strong experience across Microsoft 365, Azure and modern infrastructure technologies
- Are comfortable owning technical changes within client environments
- Enjoy learning new technologies and figuring things out
- Stay calm under pressure and don't get flustered when things become challenging
- Can work independently and take responsibility for your own projects
- Communicate clearly with clients and colleagues
- Enjoy collaborating with others and contributing to a team
- Have a positive, can-do attitude
- Care about delivering a great outcome for the client
Why engineers enjoy working at Vermont
You'll be trusted.
We hire good people and give them the freedom to do their jobs. This isn't an environment built around micromanagement.
You'll have ownership.
You'll lead projects, make decisions and see the direct impact of your work.
You'll keep learning.
We work across a wide range of technologies, clients and projects. No two weeks are ever quite the same.
You'll work with adults.
We value responsibility, initiative and common sense. We focus on outcomes rather than looking over people's shoulders.
You'll be part of a team.
Although much of the role is self-directed, nobody operates alone. We collaborate, share knowledge and support each other when things get tough.
What you'll get
- £50,000+ depending on experience and a company car
- Home-based role with some visits to client locations
- 24 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Exposure to a wide variety of projects and technologies
- Ongoing learning and development
- A supportive, experienced technical team
- A role where you'll be trusted to make decisions and take ownership
- The opportunity to make a genuine difference for clients
Location & Travel
This is a home-based role.
Most client visits are within one to two hours of Southampton, although occasional travel further afield may be required.
Core working hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm.
Project work sometimes requires flexibility, and we're looking for someone who understands that delivering successful projects occasionally means adapting to client requirements and schedules.
Sound like your kind of role?
We're not looking for someone who knows everything.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, takes ownership, works well with others and genuinely cares about delivering great results for clients.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
