About the Opportunity

We are hiring a VP – Senior Software Engineer (Java) for a leading global investment banking and financial services organisation establishing a strategic technology presence in Pune.

This is an opportunity to work on business-critical engineering platforms, design scalable distributed systems, and solve complex technical challenges in a high-performance engineering environment.

We are looking for a technically strong, hands-on engineer who enjoys coding, architecture, performance optimisation and solving complex engineering problems. This is an individual-contributor-oriented technical leadership role, not a pure people-management position.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable, high-performance applications using Java, Spring Boot and microservices.
• Architect and implement distributed systems and event-driven applications using Apache Kafka.
• Build and optimise low-latency, high-throughput systems for business-critical workloads.
• Apply strong multithreading and concurrency concepts to solve complex performance and scalability challenges.
• Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architecture decisions, design reviews and engineering standards.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across application, JVM, messaging and database layers.
• Implement resilient systems with appropriate error handling, retries, idempotency and fault-tolerance mechanisms.
• Work with cloud technologies, containerisation and CI/CD practices to support reliable application delivery.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, architects and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers through technical guidance while remaining actively involved in coding and engineering problem-solving.

Mandatory Skills and Qualifications

• 9–16 years of relevant software engineering experience, with strong hands-on Java development.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• In-depth, practical experience implementing and troubleshooting Apache Kafka.
• Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
• Proven experience with multithreading, concurrency and performance optimisation.
• Experience designing or developing low-latency, high-throughput applications.
• Strong system-design and architecture skills, with the ability to explain and defend technical decisions.
• Current hands-on coding and debugging experience.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.

Good to Have

• Experience in investment banking, financial services, capital markets or trading technology.
• Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift or other enterprise databases.
• Experience with performance monitoring, profiling and production troubleshooting.
• Experience participating in architecture review boards or enterprise design forums.
