Senior Java Software Engineer – Application Enhancements Lead

Concept Solutions, LLC (CS) is seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer – Application Enhancements Lead to join a program team responsible for building, modernizing, and sustaining mission-critical applications for a Department of War (DoW) customer.

In this role, you will lead a small team of software engineers delivering enhancements and new capabilities to production Java and React applications. You will provide hands-on technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle, from solution design and code reviews through testing and production release.

This is an opportunity to combine your technical expertise with team leadership while supporting applications critical to federal government operations.

• Lead a small engineering team responsible for designing, developing, testing, and releasing new capabilities and enhancements to production Java and React applications.
• Own technical design decisions, establish code review standards, and ensure release readiness for assigned development work.
• Collaborate with Government product owners to define requirements, prioritize enhancements, and manage the team's development backlog.
• Deliver reliable software updates to mission-critical production systems using automated testing, feature flags, and rehearsed rollback procedures.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, promoting software engineering best practices and high-quality code.
• Collaborate with sustainment, security, and platform engineering teams to ensure application reliability, security, and successful deployment.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of enterprise Java software development experience, including Spring Boot.
• Strong SQL development experience, particularly with PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing, developing, and integrating REST APIs.
• Demonstrated experience leading a small software engineering team through technical design, code reviews, testing, and production releases.
• Experience working in an Agile software development environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing applications using React.
• Experience integrating with Pega or other workflow platforms.
• Familiarity with Amazon ECS/Fargate and AWS GovCloud.
• Experience delivering software solutions in federal government or other regulated environments requiring formal change control.
• Active Secret security clearance.

Work Location and Schedule

Location: Hybrid. Reston, VA headquarters and approved remote locations within the United States, with on-site work at Government facilities in Northern Virginia and Maryland as required. Government-furnished equipment is used for all access to Government environments.

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with core hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eastern. The team operates in two-week Agile sprints, including customer demonstrations each sprint.

Travel: 0–10%, within the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Security Requirement: U.S. citizenship required. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoW security clearance. An active Secret clearance or higher is strongly preferred and may allow an earlier start.

Compensation: $170,000–$180,000 base salary, depending on experience.

This position is contingent upon contract award, with an anticipated start in October 2026.
