Senior Java Software Engineer

Senior Java Engineer (m/f/d) – 100% Remote (Germany)

A profitable SaaS product company in the education space is hiring two Senior Java Engineers to help drive the next phase of their platform – used daily by operators across Germany.

You’ll join a small, senior engineering team, work 100% remotely, and take real ownership over backend architecture plus one of three key areas: DevOps, AI, or Mobile.

You’ll be a key contributor to a big product roadmap, including:

• Building new product capabilities
• New features in the main app and team app
• A new terminal app for check‑in / check‑out time tracking
• Improvements in invoicing and billing

New interfaces:

• Payroll integrations
• Cross‑platform job‑posting integrations
• Delivering for a major strategic partner
• Two new hires will be tightly aligned to a large, long‑term partner
• Some features will be generalised into the core product, others are customer‑specific – you’ll help decide

Tech environment

Backend (your core focus):

• Java
• Spring Boot

Frontend:

• Vue.js

Infrastructure / DevOps:

• Kubernetes with Helm charts
• Jenkins for build pipelines & CI/CD

AI (already prototyped):

• RAG (Retrieval‑Augmented Generation) system to answer “how do I…?” questions in the product
• AI access to internal data for quick reports, e.g.:
• “Which employees start next week?”
• “Who is on vacation?”
• Using AI to improve development workflows (reviews, automation, etc.)

What they’re really looking for

Must‑haves:

• Strong experience with Java & Spring Boot
• Ability to discuss architecture & service design (not just CRUD endpoints)
• Comfortable in a small, senior, remote team with a lot of ownership
• Fluent German (the product and customers are German‑speaking)

AND deep experience in at least ONE of these three areas:

DevOps

• Practical experience with Kubernetes + Helm
• Designing & maintaining Jenkins pipelines
• Handling deployments, monitoring, troubleshooting – backing up the current “single point of failure” for production deployments

AI

• Hands‑on experience with RAG‑style systems or similar AI integrations
• Bringing AI into a real product (not just hobby scripts)
• Interest in using AI to improve SDLC: code reviews, automation, tooling

Mobile Management

• Managing the full lifecycle of iOS & Android apps:
• App Store / Play Store submissions, agreements, compliance, releases
• Setting up / improving automated build & release pipelines
• Experience with cross‑platform stacks (e.g. Vue + Capacitor or similar) is a plus

Backend is the priority. Frontend is optional – if you enjoy full‑stack work, there’s plenty to do; if not, you can stay backend‑heavy plus your chosen specialisation.

Setup & offer

🏡 Location: 100% remote within Germany (one offsite per year for a few days)

🗣 Language: German required

💼 Level: Senior (typically 5-10 years’ experience; capability matters more than the exact number)

💰 Salary: €70,000 - €90,000 depending on experience & specialisation
