Senior Java Software Engineer

We are looking for a Backend Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Java 17, Spring, application modernization, dependency upgrades, and production remediation .

The engineer will work on modernizing existing Java applications, including runtime and framework upgrades, dependency and CVE remediation, and compatibility with HBase/Spark-based data platforms. The role requires strong focus on maintaining application behavior and API compatibility while making modernization changes.

The ideal candidate should have experience with Java 8 to Java 17 modernization , dependency remediation, automated testing, integration validation, and production application migration.

Responsibilities

• Modernize existing Java applications from legacy runtimes to Java 17 .
• Upgrade Spring/framework versions while maintaining application functionality and compatibility.
• Analyze and remediate application dependencies and associated CVEs/security vulnerabilities .
• Assess compatibility issues resulting from Java, Spring, library, runtime, and platform upgrades.
• Work with HBase and Spark integrations and resolve compatibility issues between applications and data platforms.
• Develop and maintain backend services and REST APIs as required during modernization.
• Perform dependency upgrades using Maven and/or Gradle .
• Implement code changes required to support runtime and framework modernization.
• Use automated testing to validate application behavior following modernization changes.
• Perform integration and compatibility testing across application, data, and infrastructure layers.
• Support remediation of findings identified through security scanning and dependency analysis.
• Work with DevSecOps and Security teams to resolve application security findings.
• Participate in production migration, deployment, cutover, validation, and rollback activities.
• Troubleshoot production compatibility and application issues during migration and stabilization.
• Maintain technical documentation related to modernization, migration decisions, breaking changes, dependencies, compatibility, remediation and validation results.
• Collaborate with Cloud, Data, QA, Security, and DevSecOps teams to resolve cross-functional issues.

Must-Have Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on Java backend development experience.
• Strong experience with Java 17 and Java application modernization.
• Strong experience with Spring / Spring 5 and an understanding of the javax vs jakarta namespace distinction and its migration implications.
• Experience with Java 8 to Java 17 migration or equivalent runtime modernization .
• Strong experience with Maven and/or Gradle .
• Experience with REST APIs and backend service development .
• Experience with dependency upgrades and CVE/security remediation .
• Experience with application compatibility testing during runtime/framework upgrades.
• Experience integrating Java applications with HBase and/or Spark .
• Strong understanding of application dependencies and impact analysis.
• Experience with JUnit and Mockito or equivalent unit-testing frameworks.
• Experience supporting production application migration and validation.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.

Good-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Amazon Corretto 17 .
• Experience with HBase 2.x migration .
• Experience with Spark/Scala integration .
• Experience with OWASP Dependency Check .
• Experience with security scanning and software composition analysis.
• Experience with Activiti or similar workflow/process engines.
• Experience with API compatibility and regression testing.
• Experience with CI/CD-based application deployment.
