2. Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Test Engineer to join Schiphol’s Cargonaut team, contributing to the development and support of a new Port Community System (PCS) running on OpenShift in Azure Cloud.

In this role, you will take ownership of test automation, integration testing, and overall test management for the platform. You will work closely with development teams, business stakeholders, and supply chain partners to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of the system.

The ideal candidate combines strong Java development and test automation expertise with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. You will be expected to contribute at both operational and tactical levels, driving continuous improvements in testing strategies, processes, and tools.

3. Key Responsibilities

• Define functional and non-functional acceptance criteria.
• Develop, maintain, and expand the automated end-to-end (E2E) test suite using Java.
• Plan, execute, and analyse functional, regression, usability, and integration tests.
• Collaborate with development and business teams to define and implement effective test strategies.
• Drive continuous improvements in testing processes, including shift-left testing.
• Analyse test results, identify defects, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
• Support the resolution of technical issues and conduct root cause analyses.
• Coordinate and execute integration testing with external supply chain partners.
• Communicate with chain partners and Cargonaut colleagues to coordinate testing activities, share knowledge, and monitor progress.
• Take ownership of test management across the entire platform, ensuring consistency and quality throughout the testing lifecycle.
• Identify structural improvements in testing methodologies, tools, and techniques.
• Work collaboratively with the team to balance quality, delivery speed, and business impact.

Additional responsibility: Participation in the on-call rota is desirable. This involves being available 24/7 for approximately one week every two months. Compensation is provided for on-call duties.

4. Essential Skills and Experience

Candidates must demonstrate the following:

• Extensive, comprehensive experience with Spring Boot .
• At least 5 years of Java experience .
• At least 5 years of test automation experience .
• Practical experience with Testing as Code .
• Strong knowledge of automated testing methodologies and end-to-end testing.
• Experience designing and implementing test strategies.
• Experience conducting integration, functional, and regression testing.
• A proactive, hands-on, and solution-oriented approach.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• The ability to take ownership of testing activities from planning through execution and delivery.

5. Desirable Skills

• Experience with Cucumber.
• Experience with Splunk Enterprise.
• Experience with Splunk Observability Cloud.
• Experience working with cloud-based platforms and OpenShift.
