We are looking for a Senior Kafka / Java Consultant to conduct a technical audit of existing Java applications using Kafka, assess implementation quality and resilience, identify risks, and define concrete improvement recommendations.

📍 Location: Paris, France (Hybrid)

🔍 What You’ll Bring:

🔹 Senior-level experience as a Java Developer, Application Architect or Kafka Consultant

🔹 Very strong expertise in Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures

🔹 Strong Java development background with experience reviewing existing application implementations

🔹 Good knowledge of Spring & Spring Kafka

🔹 Strong understanding of Kafka resilience, reliability and error-handling mechanisms

🔹 Experience with message consumption, consumer blocking and processing reliability

🔹 Strong knowledge of retry mechanisms, Dead Letter Queues (DLQ) and offset management

🔹 Understanding of message duplication, delivery guarantees and processing failures

🔹 Experience assessing Kafka producer and consumer configurations

🔹 Strong understanding of performance optimization and scalability

🔹 Experience with monitoring, observability and production troubleshooting

🔹 Ability to identify technical risks and challenge existing implementation choices

🔹 Experience conducting technical audits / architecture reviews

🔹 Ability to produce clear findings, reports and actionable recommendations

📋 Key Responsibilities:

🔹 Review existing internal Kafka standards, rules and recommendations

🔹 Enrich internal guidelines with industry and market best practices

🔹 Build a structured Kafka application audit plan

🔹 Inventory applications and identify Kafka usage, flows and use cases

🔹 Review Java code, Kafka configurations and technical settings

🔹 Assess compliance with internal standards and industry best practices

🔹 Identify gaps, weaknesses and technical risks

🔹 Analyze potential impact including message loss, duplication, saturation, performance degradation and availability issues

🔹 Provide prioritized recommendations, quick wins and structural improvements

🔹 Where possible, provide correction effort estimates / order of magnitude

🔹 Work closely with internal development and technical teams
