L3 NetApp Engineer ONTAP & StorageGRID

Role Overview

• Deliver L3 engineering for NetApp ONTAP clusters and StorageGRID platforms
• Manage advanced NAS/SAN provisioning, multiprotocol access, and networking
• Provide deep troubleshooting for latency, throughput, and protocol issues
• Own StorageGRID object storage engineering and governance
• Execute replication, DR alignment, and performance tuning tasks
• Manage lifecycle operations including upgrades and patching
• Support enterprise-scale capacity, availability, and data protection requirements

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong ONTAP expertise (9.x+), including aggregates, SVMs, LIFs, and volumes
• Proficiency in SMB/NFS/LDAP multiprotocol integration
• Experience with SnapMirror, snapshots, data protection, and tiering
• Strong knowledge of StorageGRID architecture, VDCs, replication groups, and buckets
• Advanced troubleshooting using Active IQ, OCI, and system logs
• Ability to execute L3 changes, upgrades, and complex storage configurations
• Strong understanding of ONTAP internals (WAFL, CPs, layout)
• Hands-on experience writing and updating SOPs, KBs, and engineering documents
• Ability to collaborate across infrastructure domains for troubleshooting

Key Responsibilities

• Engineer ONTAP clusters, SVMs, aggregates, and storage networking
• Configure SMB/NFS multiprotocol access, LDAP, and export policies
• Provision volumes, LUNs, and replication schedules
• Analyze AutoSupport, OCI insights, and performance metrics
• Build StorageGRID pools, VDCs, namespaces, and buckets
• Configure S3 policies, retention, and capacity settings
• Troubleshoot replication lag, object failures, and protocol issues
• Lead firmware upgrades, patches, and L3 engineering changes
• Maintain documentation, runbooks, and topology details
• Support DR testing, readiness checks, and failover validation
• Ensure compliance with standards and governance controls
• Conduct capacity forecasting and performance tuning
• Coordinate with virtualization, OS, and network teams
• Drive RCA and implement preventive measures
• Support global operations and escalations as SME
