What they need

Job Title: Senior Maintenance Technician (Evening Shift 4pm to 3am Monday to Thursday)

Cygnum is seeking an experienced, proactive and hands-on Senior Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance team. This role combines advanced technical capability with responsibility for maintenance planning, equipment reliability, technician development and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate key maintenance activities, use performance data to prioritise improvements and provide day-to-day technical leadership within the maintenance function.

You will play a key role in improving the reliability and performance of specialist timber frame manufacturing machinery, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently to support production targets. The successful candidate will establish maintenance priorities, identify recurring trends and lead by example while working closely with production teams, other technicians and external suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

· Performing, owning and controlling the planned preventative maintenance programme, including developing schedules, coordinating resources, monitoring completion and compliance, reviewing overdue work, and adjusting maintenance frequencies based on equipment condition, history and operational risk.

· Perform fault finding, diagnostics and repairs on production equipment, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.

· Manage essential mechanical alignments and equipment configurations to maintain product quality and operational efficiency.

· Analyse Overall Equipment Effectiveness data, downtime trends, recurring faults and maintenance history to identify the main equipment losses, prioritise corrective actions and verify that completed improvements deliver measurable gains in availability, performance and quality.

· Maintain oversight of maintenance records and performance reporting, ensuring work orders, breakdown details, root causes, corrective actions, parts usage and preventative maintenance completion are recorded accurately and used to support maintenance planning and review.

· Lead engagement with equipment manufacturers, contractors and suppliers on complex technical issues, clearly defining the problem, coordinating site support, challenging proposed solutions where required and retaining ownership until the issue is fully resolved and recurrence risks are addressed.

· Act as a champion for onsite safety, actively promoting and adhering to all safety protocols while leading by example.

· Supporting Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities with production teams, establishing operator equipment checks, cleaning and inspection standards, supporting operator training, reviewing compliance and escalating deterioration before it results in breakdowns or quality losses.

· Provide day-to-day technical guidance and structured mentoring to other maintenance technicians, supporting skills development, sharing diagnostic methods, reviewing work quality and helping to build consistent maintenance standards across the team.

· Supporting defined reliability and maintenance improvement projects from problem identification through implementation and benefit verification, coordinating actions across maintenance, production, engineering and external suppliers.

Requirements
Technical Skills & Experience

· A recognised qualification or completed apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic or Maintenance Engineering, or an equivalent combination of technical training and relevant industrial experience.

· Substantial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, production, engineering or industrial environment, including responsibility for complex breakdowns and planned maintenance activities.

· Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability across mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, with the ability to identify root causes rather than only treating symptoms.

· Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, sensors, drives, controls and automation; experience with programmable logic controllers is desirable.

· Experience using a computerised maintenance management system to manage work orders, preventative maintenance schedules, equipment history and maintenance performance data.

· Experience of Overall Equipment Effectiveness, root cause analysis, Total Productive Maintenance or similar reliability improvement methods is highly desirable.

· Previous experience with automated manufacturing equipment or within timber frame, offsite construction or a comparable production environment would be advantageous.

· Ability to prioritise competing maintenance demands, assess operational risk and make sound decisions in a fast-paced production environment.

· Demonstrated experience implementing maintenance or reliability improvements and confirming their impact through measurable performance results.

Core Competencies

· Structured problem-solving and sound technical judgement, with the ability to remain effective during complex or time-critical breakdowns.

· Proactive, improvement-focused approach, with the discipline to follow actions through to completion and verify that issues have been fully resolved.

· Strong ownership and organisational skills, with the ability to plan work, coordinate resources and maintain momentum with minimal supervision.

· Clear English verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues, produce concise maintenance reports and manage discussions with production teams, contractors and equipment manufacturers.

· Strong safety leadership, with a practical understanding of risk assessment, isolation and lockout procedures, safe systems of work and contractor control.

· Team-focused, with the ability to coach others, challenge poor standards constructively and lead by example in a shift-based environment.

· Consistent, dependable and committed to developing both personal capability and the overall effectiveness of the maintenance function.
