Senior Manager - Database Engineering

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Manager - Database Engineering to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.

This role will lead a distributed database engineering function with accountability for enterprise database operations across multiple environments. The ideal candidate will shape the modernization roadmap, guide migration efforts, and partner closely with cross-functional teams to support stable, scalable data infrastructure. You will also provide technical direction on architecture, performance, and incident resolution to help ensure reliable business outcomes.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $139,000 – $176,700 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a distributed database engineering team
• Ensure operational accountability for the enterprise database estate across different environments
• Translate the database strategy into a clear roadmap for modernization and migration
• Provide technical guidance across various database platforms and technologies
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess workloads and plan migrations
• Review database architecture and performance; support complex incident resolutions
• Oversee database migration projects and ensure stable transitions

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in enterprise database engineering or related fields, including 3+ years in leadership roles
• Proven ability to manage distributed teams and develop technical talent
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server architecture and performance optimization
• Experience with cloud database platforms such as PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, and Azure SQL Database
• Background in database migration and modernization initiatives in complex environments
• Strong decision-making capability related to architecture and technical tradeoffs
• Proficiency in database observability, automation, and CI/CD practices
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience
