Senior M&E Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a hands-on M&E / Mechatronics Engineer to act as the primary technical lead across active production lines. In this role, you will lead equipment commissioning, execute direct electromechanical maintenance, and perform root-cause troubleshooting on complex automated systems to maximize operational uptime and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Function as the primary shop-floor technical lead, executing direct repairs, preventive maintenance (PM), and continuous optimization of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems
• Participate directly in greenfield/brownfield equipment setup, installation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), loop checks and new system implementation
• Perform equipment selection, sizing calculations and preparation of technical specifications
• Perform hands-on root-cause failure analysis (RCFA) for breakdown recovery across active production machinery
• Connect directly to PLC controllers on the shop floor to trace live ladder logic, debug SCADA/HMI communication drops, and adjust control routines
• Inspect, calibrate, and wire software-to-hardware interfaces, ensuring seamless signal flow between controllers, sensors, solenoids, actuators, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and motor drives
• Enforce strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, ensuring electrical wiring, mechanical guarding, and hygienic designs meet statutory, ISO, and food safety standards (HACCP, GMP)

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Automation
• 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial machinery maintenance, automation integration, or plant engineering
• Practical experience programming, uploading/downloading code, and troubleshooting PLCs (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal/S7, Allen-Bradley Studio 5000/ControlLogix, Omron, or Schneider) and HMI/SCADA systems
• Proficient with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal calibrators; skilled at tracing field wiring and diagnosing solenoids, actuators, VFDs, servo systems, and sensors
• Practical reading and debugging of Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or industrial scripting
• Skilled at reading and modifying electrical schematics, control loop diagrams, and mechanical layouts during field repairs or installation updates
• Preferred experience in plant setup, machinery installation, commissioning, or new production line integrations
• Prior experience in food manufacturing or heavy processing (e.g., F&B, grain processing, sugar refining, palm oil, or FMCG) is highly desirable
• Professional certifications in PLC systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent automation credentials) and safety protocols (e.g., LOTO, safe work procedures)
• Willingness to travel within Malaysia for occasional work trips
