Purpose
- As Senior Marine Engineer, you deliver safe, robust and operable marine and utility system designs for offshore floating facilities such as FPSOs and FSOs. The role provides technical ownership of assigned marine systems throughout the project lifecycle, from proposal and FEED through EPC, yard execution, commissioning and operations support, ensuring compliance with classification, regulatory, client and SBM requirements.
Responsibilities
- You act as system engineer or system owner for defined marine and utility systems on FPSO projects across proposal, FEED, EPC and brownfield phases – including direct interface with shipyard.
- You develop marine system designs including PFDs, P&IDs, UFDs, system descriptions and engineering philosophies.
- You perform system sizing, utility demand calculations and equipment selection for marine and auxiliary systems.
- You prepare and review technical requisitions, datasheets and vendor documentation for marine packages.
- You act as package engineer for assigned marine systems, supporting procurement, fabrication, FAT, SAT and yard activities.
- You interface closely with Naval Architecture, Hull, Piping, Mechanical, HVAC, Electrical, ICSS and Process disciplines to ensure integrated and operable designs.
- You participate in design reviews, constructability reviews and safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA/SIL, providing marine engineering input and follow up.
- You support commissioning and start up activities, including site queries, redlining and preparation of as built documentation.
- You support brownfield modifications and operational troubleshooting for existing offshore units.
- You guide and review the work of less experienced marine engineers and designers, contributing to knowledge sharing and engineering quality.
Education
- Engineering degree at BSc or MSc level in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Marine & Offshore Engineering or equivalent.
Experience
- 5 to 10 years of relevant marine systems engineering experience within offshore oil and gas projects, preferably FPSO or FSO facilities, with exposure to FEED, EPC and commissioning or operational support.
- Experience with common marine engineering and diagram tools (e.g. AVEVA, AutoCAD), calculation tools for marine and utility systems, and standard offshore project engineering environments.
- Strong ownership and accountability for assigned systems and deliverables.
- Practical, lifecycle oriented mindset with attention to operability and maintainability.
- Clear and structured communication in multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams.
- Ability to work effectively with shipyards, vendors and offshore stakeholders.
- Proactive team player with willingness to coach and support less experienced engineers.
