Senior / Master Vehicle Technician

JDS Motor Group is looking for an experienced, highly skilled Senior / Master Vehicle Technician to join our workshop team.

We are an independent used vehicle dealership with our own workshop, preparing and maintaining a wide range of makes and models. We are looking for someone who is confident working independently, capable of tackling more involved mechanical repairs and takes genuine pride in doing the job properly.

The Role

This is a hands-on position covering everything from routine servicing and preparation work through to more complex engine repairs and diagnostics.

A major advantage would be experience with wet timing belt replacement, particularly across Ford EcoBoost, Citroën/Peugeot PureTech and Vauxhall applications.

If you haven’t carried out large numbers of wet belts but you’re an experienced technician with strong engine and timing knowledge, we’re still interested. We’re happy for the right person to develop further in this area.

Experience with Land Rover / Range Rover Ingenium timing chain replacement would also be highly desirable. We are looking for someone comfortable with major mechanical work, or with the experience and ability to become fully competent with these jobs.

Day-to-day work will include:

• Wet timing belt replacement and associated engine work
• Timing belts, timing chains and clutches
• Land Rover / Range Rover Ingenium timing chain work
• Vehicle diagnostics and fault finding
• Routine servicing and maintenance
• Brakes, suspension, steering and wheel bearings
• Cooling system and engine repairs
• MOT failure and advisory repairs
• Pre-sale preparation and mechanical inspections
• Identifying faults accurately rather than simply replacing parts
• General mechanical repairs across a wide variety of makes and models

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced technician rather than an entry-level mechanic.

You should have strong all-round mechanical knowledge and be confident taking responsibility for jobs from diagnosis through to completion.

The ideal candidate will be someone who can be handed a more involved job and trusted to approach it methodically, work to a high standard and communicate clearly if additional faults or parts are identified.

Ideally you’ll have:

• Several years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician / Mechanic
• Strong mechanical and diagnostic ability
• Confidence carrying out timing belt and timing chain work
• Wet belt experience, or the mechanical experience and willingness to become fully competent with them
• Land Rover Ingenium chain experience would be a major advantage
• Experience with clutches and more involved engine repairs
• Strong knowledge of suspension, brakes and MOT-related repairs
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision
• Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship
• Full UK driving licence

Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 or equivalent are desirable, although substantial hands-on experience will also be considered.
