Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Marine Shiplift & Heavy Handling Systems

Location : Houston, TX (Flexible Start / Remote Hybrid Transition Options Available)

About the Opportunity

We are an internationally recognized leader in large-scale marine transfer, shiplift systems, and heavy load handling solutions. Due to major upcoming shipyard development projects and expanding commercial/defense contracts, we are seeking a high-calibe r Senior Mechanical Design Engine er specializing in heavy lifting, winch systems, and marine transfer technology

This role is ideal for an engineering specialist currently working with large-scale tensioning systems, heavy winches, synchronized hydraulic transfer, or shiplifts who is looking to step into a high-visibility position. You will lead end-to-end design, analysis, and implementation for some of the world's largest marine lifting infrastructures

Key Responsibilities

• System Design & Integration : Lead the mechanical design, sizing, and engineering of heavy marine lifting platforms, high-capacity winch machinery, hydraulic transfer cars, and articulated load-bearing structures
• Structural & Dynamic Analysis : Perform rigorous stress, fatigue, structural (FEA), and dynamic calculations for heavy-duty steel fabrications operating under severe marine environments
• Winch & Drive Sizing : Specify and design high-tonnage winches, gearboxes, wire rope reeving systems, hydraulic circuits, and electro-mechanical drive assemblies
• Cross-Discipline Alignment : Work closely with electrical, controls, and naval architecture teams to ensure seamless integration of synchronized lifting and transfer sequences
• Client & Yard Consultation : Participate in technical reviews, installation oversight, and commissioning strategies for domestic and international shipyard operators

Qualifications & Expertise

• Education : B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Marine Machinery Engineering
• Experience : 5+ years of direct mechanical design experience focused on heavy lifting, marine handling, or high-capacity mechanical systems
• Core Technical Expertise
• Direct experience desig ning high-tonnage winches, heavy haul/transfer systems, shiplifts, or heavy-duty marine cranes
• Deep understandin g of hydraulic systems, heavy gear trains, structural steel fabrication, and wire rope reviving
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Inventor) and structural calculation tools (FEA/ANSYS)
• Familiarity with marine classification society standards (ABS, DNV, Lloyd's Register) for lifting appliances and shipyard installations
• Relocation : Located in or willing to start in Houston, TX, with a planned transition/relocation to South Florida (flexible timeline with comprehensive relocation support)
