Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Mission Critical Data Centers

Up to $225,000 base + bonus + benefits

We're partnering with a leading owner representation firm to find a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of advanced cooling and HVAC infrastructure for large-scale, mission-critical data center projects. This is a high-impact technical leadership role within the A/E industry, overseeing mechanical design from initial concept through commissioning and operational handover across some of the most complex digital infrastructure developments in North America.

What you'll do

• Lead mechanical design and engineering activities across the full project lifecycle from concept development through to handover on large-scale data center and mission-critical infrastructure projects
• Develop and review thermal load calculations, airflow modelling, cooling plant designs, piping schematics, airflow diagrams, shop drawings, submittals, and commissioning documentation
• Design and evaluate data center cooling solutions including chilled water plants, cooling towers, air-based cooling, liquid cooling, rear-door heat exchangers, and direct-to-chip cooling technologies
• Oversee mechanical engineers and designers, establishing engineering standards, reviewing deliverables, and mentoring project teams
• Drive innovation by evaluating advanced cooling strategies and emerging technologies to improve thermal performance, energy efficiency, and system reliability
• Ensure compliance with ASHRAE guidelines , industry best practices, and local building codes
• Lead factory witness testing, site inspections, TAB coordination, commissioning activities, and integration with Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Conduct project risk assessments and support operations teams through system handover and post-commissioning activities

What you'll bring

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• 10+ years of experience within the A/E industry, with significant exposure to mission-critical or data center environments
• Deep expertise in data center cooling systems , including chilled water plants, cooling towers, air-cooled and liquid-cooled solutions
• Strong understanding of thermal load calculations, airflow modelling, and CFD analysis , with experience using tools such as HAP, TRACE, IES, or similar platforms
• Experience with Revit BIM design and development of construction-ready engineering documentation
• Thorough knowledge of redundancy and resiliency strategies including N, N+1, and 2N architectures
• Experience supporting commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and the development of MOPs and SOPs
• Understanding of key data center performance metrics including PUE and WUE
• Strong background in design coordination, stakeholder management, and leading multidisciplinary project teams
