About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Ulu Tiram, Johor. This is a full-time position that offers a unique opportunity to lead mechanical design initiatives for innovative carbon-related projects. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge mechanical solutions, overseeing design projects from conception through to implementation, and mentoring junior engineering staff. Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company specifications
• Conduct comprehensive mechanical analysis, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and structural simulations using advanced CAD and finite element analysis (FEA) software
• Prepare detailed technical drawings, design documentation, and engineering specifications for manufacturing and assembly
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including process engineers, manufacturing specialists, and project managers to optimise designs for performance and cost-effectiveness
• Review and approve designs from junior engineers and technicians, providing constructive feedback and technical guidance
• Conduct design reviews and feasibility studies to identify potential improvements and innovative solutions
• Liaise with suppliers and vendors to ensure materials and components meet design requirements and quality standards
• Support troubleshooting and problem-solving for mechanical issues in production or field operations
• Stay current with industry advancements and emerging technologies in mechanical engineering and carbon-related applications

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from a recognised institution
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in manufacturing, carbon products, or related industries
• Advanced proficiency with CAD software (such as SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, or equivalent) and FEA analysis tools
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes
• Demonstrated expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM), cost optimisation, and product lifecycle management
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead multiple design projects simultaneously
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to mentor and guide junior team members
• Problem-solving mindset with analytical and critical thinking capabilities
• Knowledge of relevant engineering standards, codes, and regulations (ISO, ASTM, or equivalent)
• Experience in the carbon, composites, or related material science fields is highly desirable
• Professional Engineering (PE) certification or equivalent is preferred
