What they need

Company Description Marcé Fire Fighting Technology (PTY) Ltd is a leading provider of turnkey emergency services solutions, delivering specialized fire fighting vehicles across Africa and beyond. With over 20 years of experience, the company manufactures up to 120 fire fighting vehicles per year, with 98% produced locally at its 8,400m² manufacturing plant in Centurion, South Africa. Marcé is ISO 9001 certified and registered with the SABS and the South African Department of Transport as a Manufacturer, Importer, and Bodybuilder. The company operates multiple branches in South Africa and across Africa, supported by international representation. Its fire bodies are precision designed, laser cut, CNC bent, and welded using advanced body construction technology, with every part ISO numbered for traceability and future replacement.

Role Description The Senior Mechanical Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Pretoria, responsible for leading the design of specialized fire fighting vehicles and related mechanical systems. Daily tasks include creating detailed technical drawings, 3D models, and assemblies for vehicle bodies, chassis integrations, and mechanical components using Solid Works software. The role involves collaborating with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements, and are optimized for manufacturability within the local plant.

The Senior Mechanical Designer will participate in research and development initiatives, improve existing designs, and support continuous innovation in fire body construction and vehicle systems. Additional responsibilities include reviewing design documentation, providing technical guidance to junior designers, and assisting in resolving design and manufacturing issues on the shop floor.

  • Proficiency in Solid Works Design Software and Technical Drawing for complex assemblies and systems.
  • Experience in Research and Development (R&D), including prototyping, testing, and design optimization.

  • Familiarity with ISO quality systems and relevant transport or safety standards is an advantage.
  • Ability to work on-site, collaborate in cross-functional teams, and mentor less experienced designers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple design projects.
