Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary

· Leads projects for design, development, and validation of new mechanical systems for Eastman’s cutting and spreading machines in accordance with established product specifications. Also responsible for sustaining engineering, continuous improvement, and technical support to the quality, manufacturing, purchasing, production, and sales departments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

· Design, develop, analyze, test, and document the mechanical aspect of product designs which meet the system’s functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and safety requirements.

· Manage projects from concept and design, through completion and release to production.

· Serve as mentor to other engineers and technicians within the company, helping them develop their design, analysis, and problem-solving skills, delegating tasks and managing outcomes.

· Ensure project success by meeting schedule, cost, performance, and quality requirements.

· Produce project technical file documentation that includes drawings, BOMs, engineering design files, supplier communications, and Engineering Change Notices (ECN’s).

· Strong focus on cost-effective, readily-serviceable, and manufacturable designs.

· Lead and participate in product design reviews and risk assessments.

· Ensure designs meet all regulatory requirements (CE, UL, CSA, IEC, etc.).

· Support continuous improvement of all existing Eastman products.

· Provide manufacturing support to maintain quality and production output.

· Provide technical support to Purchasing, Tech Service and Sales as needed.

· Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications & Background

· 10+ years of mechanical design engineering experience.

· BSME from an accredited university, MSME is preferred.

· Demonstrate expert knowledge in complex electromechanical component, assembly, and product design including:

o The proficient use of CAD design and analysis tools (SolidWorks preferred).

o Structural, electrical enclosure, electromechanical / motion control system design experience.

o Strong understanding of various fabrication techniques including machining, sheet metal design, and welding.

o Experience in the application of industrial design and documentation standards (e.g., ASME, GD&T).

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

· Ability to correctly use standard test and measurement equipment to quantify design margins and problems.

· Ability to successfully prioritize, and organize projects, deadlines, and tasks with little supervision in both team and independent environments.

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, fellow engineers, assemblers, technicians, and supervisors.

· High degree of flexibility and willingness to work on a wide variety of projects and tasks.

· Demonstrated creativity with strong analytical and technical expertise.

· Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills with a collaborative team player approach.

· A continuous improvement / growth mindset and approach are essential.

· Strong data analysis and data presentation skills.

· Experience in a custom engineered / manufactured product environment.

· Demonstrated proficiency with ERP and/or PDM systems is considered a strong asset.

· Familiarity with the nuances of textile and composite material processing is a significant plus.

· Able to travel 5-10% of the time.

Pay: $78,191.80 - $94,166.48 per year
