What they need

Surbana Jurong Infrastructure Global Energy Department is seeking to hire a (Senior) Mechanical Engineer, specialising in rotating equipment and pumping systems. This role offers challenging and diverse career opportunities for an experienced mechanical engineer with strong technical expertise in the design, specification, selection, evaluation and engineering of pumping systems for hydrocarbon, water and seawater services. The successful candidate will work across a range of Energy projects including power generation, fuels and terminals, process and industrial facilities and coastal engineering projects.

The role will cover a broad range of rotating equipment and pump applications, including hydrocarbon transfer and process pumps, pipeline and loading pumps, seawater and cooling-water pumping systems, large vertical pumps, and concrete volute pumps, together with associated mechanical systems and interfaces.

The engineer will contribute to consultancy, feasibility studies, concept and detailed engineering, equipment specification and selection, technical bid evaluation, vendor review, design verification, site support and testing & commissioning activities, working as part of Surbana Jurong's multidisciplinary energy and infrastructure teams.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • o Independently carry out feasibility studies, conceptual design, basic engineering, Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and detailed engineering for mechanical works – rotating equipment and pumping systems.
  • o Independently prepare and review key project documentation to execute the complete mechanical engineering scope of work in accordance with project requirements and customer expectations.
  • o Perform pump sizing and selection, including system hydraulic calculations, system resistance curves, NPSH and submergence checks, and analysis of operating points and parallel pump operation.
  • o Develop specifications and data sheets for seawater cooling pumps (e.g. vertical wet-pit, mixed-flow and concrete volute pumps).
  • o Coordinate pump intake and sump design with civil/structural and process disciplines in accordance with Hydraulic Institute (ANSI/HI 9.8) guidelines, including review of physical or CFD hydraulic model studies.
  • o Specify materials of construction suitable for seawater service, taking into account corrosion, erosion, biofouling control and cathodic protection requirements.
  • o Coordinate transient (surge/water hammer) analysis of cooling water systems and recommend surge protection measures.
  • o Prepare mechanical equipment lists, material take-offs (MTOs) and technical bid evaluations for vendor packages.
  • o Review and comment on vendor and EPC design documents, including pump performance curves, rotordynamic and vibration analyses, structural interface loads and installation procedures.
  • o Review and comment on construction activities, and witness performance tests during Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) to ISO 9906 or HI standards, Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • o Supervise the fabrication, installation, pre-commissioning and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
  • o Prepare work progress reports and submit them to senior team members for review and approval before issuing to owners and other parties for approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university.
  • A master’s degree or postgraduate qualification in mechanical engineering will be an added advantage.
  • Required experience and skills:
  • Minimum eight (8) years (Senior Mechanical Engineer) of experience in conceptual, FEED and detailed engineering for mechanical, rotating equipment and pumping systems in power, oil & gas, petrochemical or water infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in a range of pump technologies and applications, including hydrocarbon process and transfer pumps, large vertical seawater and cooling-water pumps and concrete volute pumps.
  • Experience in seawater intake and outfall systems, or cooling water systems for power plants and/or refinery/petrochemical plants and/or coastal engineering projects..
  • Conversant with relevant international and local codes, standards and practices (e.g. ANSI/HI, ISO 9906, API 610 / ISO 13709, ASME) for pumps and mechanical equipment.
  • Experience in pump installation, alignment, vibration monitoring, testing & commissioning and operation & maintenance will be an added advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
