Senior Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability Engineer for a leading plastics and packaging manufacturing organization in Ghana.

The role requires a strong hands-on mechanical maintenance professional who can troubleshoot complex machinery, identify root causes of recurring failures, implement permanent engineering solutions and improve overall equipment reliability and plant uptime.

• PE Washing & Recycling Extrusion Lines
• Compressors, Chillers, Pumps, Conveyors & Material Handling Systems

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot complex and recurring mechanical breakdowns.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using 5-Why, Fishbone, Failure Analysis and CAPA.
• Identify equipment weaknesses, design issues, incorrect operating conditions and maintenance gaps.
• Implement permanent engineering modifications to eliminate recurring failures.
• Develop and strengthen Preventive & Predictive Maintenance programs.
• Monitor and improve MTBF, MTTR, OEE, downtime and PM compliance.
• Analyse machine history and downtime to identify major sources of production loss.
• Develop critical spare-parts lists and ensure availability of essential components.
• Lead machine overhauls, installations, commissioning and major repairs.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Coordinate with international OEMs and technical specialists when required.
• Read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings and technical manuals.
• Train maintenance technicians and establish maintenance SOPs and standards.

Candidate Profile

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
• 8-12 years of strong hands-on industrial maintenance experience.
• Experience in plastics / packaging manufacturing is highly preferred.
• Strong exposure to extrusion, blown film, thermoforming, injection/blow moulding and/or printing & converting equipment.
• Excellent mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC-controlled machinery, VFDs and sensors.
• Experience with RCA, TPM, preventive/predictive maintenance and reliability improvement.
• Strong understanding of MTBF, MTTR, OEE and downtime reduction.
• Must be willing to work extensively on the factory floor and handle complex technical issues independently.
