What they need

About us
The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) was established in 2002 and is the nation’s authority on sustainable buildings and communities. Our mission is to accelerate the transformation of Australia’s built environment into one that is healthy, liveable, productive, resilient and sustainable. We work with industry and government to encourage policies and programs that support our mission. We also educate thousands of people each year on how to design and deliver sustainable outcomes for Australia’s buildings and communities.

We employ over 60 staff and our national office is based in the 6 Star Green Star rated Barangaroo precinct in Sydney. We have been certified as a Great Place to Work every year since 2019.  For further insight from past and current employees on GBCA’s working environment, head to Glassdoor and SEEK company reviews.

For more information on how the GBCA is transforming the built environment, please refer to our website www.gbca.org.au.

At GBCA, our members sit at the centre of everything we do. As our Senior Membership Coordinator, you'll play a key role in building strong relationships across our membership community, helping members maximise the value of their membership and ensuring their voice is heard throughout the organisation.

Reporting into our Head of Memberships, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting with people, building trusted relationships and creating positive member experiences. You'll work closely with members, industry stakeholders and teams across GBCA to drive engagement, support retention and strengthen connections across our network.

About the role

As the Membership Engagement Specialist, you'll be the day-to-day connection between GBCA and some of our key members.

You'll build relationships across our membership base, identify opportunities to strengthen engagement, support member retention and help ensure our members are connected to the initiatives, programs and opportunities that matter most to them.

You'll also play an important role in gathering member insights and feedback, helping GBCA better understand the needs of our members and use those insights to continuously improve the member experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships across GBCA's membership base.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for member enquiries and support.
  • Connect members with relevant GBCA programs, activities, events and opportunities.
  • Identify and support engagement and retention opportunities across the membership community.
  • Represent GBCA at industry events, forums and networking activities.
  • Gather and share member feedback, insights and emerging trends.
  • Work closely with teams across the organisation to deliver positive member outcomes.
  • Support member onboarding, renewals and ongoing engagement activities.
  • Maintain accurate membership records and engagement data.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of membership processes and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business, sustainability, architecture, construction, or other related fields.
  • Working knowledge of the Australian built environment or sustainability sector.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 2-3 years experience in membership services, customer engagement, account management, business development, or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in CRM or database management systems.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Word, Excel and email management systems.
  • Comfortable networking and representing an organisation at events.
  • Working familiarity with Green Star rating tools is desirable but not essential; willingness to learn is more important.
