What they need
The Senior Memory Module Validation Engineer is responsible for defining, executing, and improving validation strategies for DRAM-based memory modules (e.g., DDR4/DDR5, UDIMM, RDIMM, SODIMM, LRDIMM, LPDDR modules). This role ensures product quality, robustness, and compliance across platforms, customers, and operating conditions. The engineer works cross functionally with design, firmware, test, reliability, and customer engineering teams to enable successful product launches and resolve complex issues.
Key Responsibilities
Memory Module Validation & Test
Define and execute comprehensive validation plans for memory modules across functional, performance, stress, and corner-case testing.
Validate memory modules on multiple platforms (CPU/chipset generations, reference boards, customer systems).
Perform margin analysis, signal integrity (SI)–related testing, and timing/voltage characterization.
Execute validation under varying environmental conditions (temperature, voltage, aging).
Debug & Issue Resolution
Lead root-cause analysis of complex module, system, or interoperability issues.
Debug failures involving DRAM, SPD, PMIC, RCD/DB, or PCB-related issues.
Collaborate with silicon vendors, OEM customers, and internal teams to resolve platform or field issues.
Provide clear failure analysis reports and corrective action recommendations.
Tooling & Automation
Develop or enhance scripts, tools, and methodologies to improve validation coverage and efficiency.
Utilize lab equipment such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, BERTs, memory exercisers, and thermal chambers.
Analyze large datasets to identify trends, weaknesses, or reliability concerns.
Standards & Compliance
Ensure products meet JEDEC specifications and internal quality requirements.
Review and interpret JEDEC standards and platform guidelines.
Support qualification, reliability, and customer certification requirements.
Technical Leadership
Mentor junior engineers and review test plans, results, and methodologies.
Drive continuous improvement in validation processes, best practices, and documentation.
Represent validation in technical reviews and cross functional meetings.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
7+ years of experience in memory validation, test, or system-level debugging.
Strong knowledge of DRAM technologies (DDR4/DDR5; LPDDR a plus).
Experience with memory module architecture (DIMM layout, SPD, PMIC, RCD/DB where applicable).
Hands-on experience with lab debug tools and validation platforms.
Solid understanding of signal integrity, timing analysis, and power integrity concepts.
Strong analytical, debugging, and problem solving skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly in written and verbal form.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience validating RDIMM/LRDIMM or enterprise/server platforms.
Familiarity with JEDEC standards and participation in JEDEC working groups.
Experience supporting customer escalations or field failure analysis.
Scripting or programming experience (Python, Perl, Bash, or similar).
Knowledge of system firmware/BIOS or memory training algorithms.
Experience working with CPU vendors.
Soft Skills & Competencies
Proactive and detail oriented with a strong ownership mindset.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
Strong collaboration skills across global, cross functional teams.
Technical leadership without direct authority.
