What they need
We are looking for an experienced modelling engineer to join Kyocera Technologies and develop our next generation of temperature-compensated MEMS resonators.
Our team develops MEMS resonators for timing and frequency control. We are looking for someone who can connect semiconductor physics, material behavior and thermal transport to support the development of high-performance MEMS devices.
You might be the one we are looking for if
- You enjoy understanding the physical mechanisms behind device behavior and turning that understanding into models that guide product development.
- You combine a strong foundation in semiconductor physics with experience in steady-state and transient thermal modelling, and enjoy validating your predictions with measurements.
- You are a self-motivated team player who communicates clearly and works closely with colleagues in MEMS design, process development, packaging and testing.
Your responsibilities in this position include
- Develop physics-based models of semiconductor material properties, including the influence of temperature and doping on silicon elasticity and device performance.
- Model steady-state and transient heat transport in MEMS devices and packages. Assess temperature gradients, thermal response and relevant time constants under different operating conditions.
- Evaluate thermal coupling, temperature-sensing accuracy, and contribute to the evaluation of semiconductor-based sensing technologies and their suitability for MEMS applications.
- Develop analytical and lumped-element models alongside FEM simulations. Write scientific simulation scripts, automate modelling workflows and validate predictions against experimental data.
- Translate modelling results into practical recommendations for resonator design, material specifications and package integration. Document and communicate findings across the R&D team.
We expect you to have most of the following qualities
- MSc or PhD in physics, semiconductor physics, materials science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor physics, including carrier statistics, band structure and the effects of strain and doping, with the ability to implement models of silicon elastic properties over temperature.
- Practical experience modelling heat transfer, including thermal resistance and capacitance, transient response, thermal interfaces and self-heating.
- Experience with multiphysics FEM tools such as COMSOL, supported by analytical modelling and sound physical judgement.
- Strong scripting skills for scientific simulations using Python, MATLAB or equivalent, including implementing physical models, automating simulations and performing parameter studies.
- Several years of relevant research or industrial R&D experience, with evidence of solving complex device or material modelling problems and analyzing experimental data to validate models.
- A product-development mindset, independent problem-solving skills and fluent English.
- Result orientation with timely delivery of results.
- Excellent team working skills
We appreciate
- Experience modelling the temperature-dependent properties of semiconductor materials, particularly doped silicon.
- Experience designing, modelling or characterizing silicon-based temperature sensors, such as thermistors, junction sensors or resonant temperature sensors.
- Experience with MEMS or other resonators. Knowledge of anisotropic elasticity, piezoelectric materials and temperature compensation is also an advantage.
- Experience with wafer-level vacuum packaging, thermal characterization, coupled thermomechanical effects or temperature-sensor calibration.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate through patents, publications or R&D projects.
- Understanding and experience in Agile working methodologies, such as scrum
Why work with us
At Kyocera Technologies, you will contribute directly to MEMS resonator technology for the timing and frequency control market. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, connect fundamental physics with practical device development, and help shape our future products. We offer:
- Flexible and inspiring working environment with good benefits and excellent colleagues
- Startup mindset combined with global company resources and customers
- Good reputation as a quality vendor in the market
- Unique vantage point from MEMS R&D to mass production
- Possibility to make results that make a difference and change the world
- Possibility to work and develop professional skills on multiple focus areas
